I like Southport in fact we spent our honeymoon there in 1961. Just a 2night stay. We have stayed there often since.

We had many happy family days out in Southport and in local Churchtown with the botanic gardens . Looks like Midge is ready to drive home 😊

Well spotted. I had to go back and peer in the window. K

What are you doing up at this late/early hour?

Katinka46 profile image
Katinka46 in reply to

Likewise? Can’t manage more than three or four hours of sleep at a time. So may drop off again in a moment. Just had hot apple juice, mulled wine sachet, honey and the last dribbles of a bottle of Glen Livet found in the cupboard.

What about you?

Same thing, wake up unable to get air in or out of my lungs until I shift some of the sticky stuff. 🙄

Blackpool is an acquired taste I must admit, but the illuminations which are on now until 4th November are well worth a vist.

Clever Don. I'm trying to upload a picture. Help.jane

in reply to chubby2x22

You need stone-UK to the rescue, I used my iPhone but I think it's depends on how you are accessing the site.

Also I think you can't upload a picture in a reply, you have to start a whole new post.

in reply to HungryHufflepuff

That’s right, I think Jane was trying to include a photo in her message. I tend to do those things without thinking about how, then can’t explain to others how I did it. Like running down stairs, if you started thinking about how you did it (or used to) you would stubble all over the place. 🤔

Explaining things to other people can be tricky. I know what I mean in my head but not everyone else does 😁

Lovely photo Don. Glad you're out and about. I love Southport too. We were there in our motorhome a few days ago, pitched up and just about fitting on our son's short drive, trying not to lower the tone of the area. His neighbours are very forgiving though, and we don't stay long. Highlight of this trip was Martin Mere, a favourite destination of 3 year old grandson. Lovely place. We all fed the ducks, but then passed on handling the enormous tarantula :( and the snakes, though daughter-in-law bravely took on the gecko to inspire her son. Like me, he was unimpressed. His favourite treat is to ride on nanny's lap on the mobility scooter, especially through puddles. We had a great time.

in reply to jabber

I visit Martin Mere frequently having been a member for years. Glad you enjoyed it. :-)

are you talking about Southport in Gold Coast Qld?

in reply to Lizzie34

No Lizzie, unless something really dramatic has happened in the last few seconds. :-o

This is Southport in the county of Merseyside, formerly Lancashire, England, UK.

Loved going to Southport when little. When a Teenager I was a Mod, My Mum wouldn't allow me to go with all the Mods on their Vespas to the Meetings at Southport Beach, I did though. rebellious Young Lass. So many Happy Memories. Thanks Don. xxx

They still have those Scooter Meets on their Vespas etc around the pierhead, as they do motorcycle meets. But I don't think they call themsleves mods and rockers anymore and they certainly don't cause any trouble.

Hi Don, I Left Liverpool many many Years ago, But, my memories are still vivid of my era, Mods, Rockers, Beatles, The Who etc., Being part of the Mersey Sound was Huge, now my Grandchildren ask me to tell them stories of the 60's, when their Nana was a Mod and a Screaming Beatle Fan...You can Take the Girl out of Liverpool, But you can't take Liverpool out of the Girl...Peace Don, Peace. xxxxx

Thanks for the photo Don it looks a lovely sunset, Midge is one lucky dog getting out and about to lovely places x

in reply to Izb1

It’s not easy being an old man’s dog. She sometimes has to remind me that she hasn’t had her dinner, needs to go out for a pee, time to go to bed or get up out of bed. In fact she remembers much more of our routine than I do these days.

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply to

Aye, but she keeps you young at heart and what a companion, loads of love and cuddles.

Hope you dont mind me asking, why did your confidence take a battering? x

in reply to Izb1

I was caught out with an asthma attack whilst in the campervan a long way from home.

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply to

Oh no, no wonder it knocked your confidence, scary problem, hopefully you will build that confidence back up and travel around again x

in reply to Izb1

It was my own fault. I go on these trips enjoying myself so much that I forget (or can't be bothered) to take my meds or follow the procedures that I need to keep my chest clear. I got away with it until a recent deterioration.

Ahh, it’s not easy being an old mans dog? That’s nice that you put it that way but I don’t think Midge knows or cares how young or old you are she just wants to love and take care of you as you do her. That’s one of the coolest things about our creatures, they don’t care if we’ve brushed our teeth or showered. Put on make up or dressed up . Although I must say when they see me put on my pajamas I think they get a little sense of relief like they’re thinking” oh good she’s in for the night” oh what a wonderful life

lovely photo Don- enjoy your getting out and about as long as you can. We were at Southport a few weeks ago with the grandchildren. Great to see there's a good fair there again. Southport used to be our annual day out for our wedding anniversary until a few years ago -

in reply to watergazer

There’s been a lot of changes over the years. We’ve lost a lot of our “ 7 miles of golden sands” to mud from the river estuaries. Good for the wild fowl but bad for buckets and spades.😢

Hope your feeling Stronger Today Don ? Thinking of you and Midge, Clever little Darling, looking after her Dad. xxxxxx

in reply to Hacienda

I had a bad night last night. Now I need to keep awake all day or I'll have trouble again tonight. It's like living on a rollercaoster as a lot of others here must feel. I'm in a better position than a lot of much younger people here, I realise that.

Lovely photo Don and nice to see Midge peeping out from the driving seat!

Don't you get cold sleeping in the van at night?

in reply to peege

It's quite cosy in the campervan at night. When I'm plugged into mains electric I have an oil-filled radiator and the van has gas central heating at other times. Don't tell Scruffy, but Midge has a pet's 12v heated matress for very cold nights. I bought it for her when she was very ill a couple of years back.

peege profile image
peege in reply to

Haha, good for Midge. I'd do the same for my Lola although she has more hair to keep her warm. When my kids were small I had a VW camper, great adventures driving to the Dolomites where their dad worked 3 times a year, Xmas, Easter & summer hols. Xmas & Easter were usually snowy & very cold. We snuggled under a down duvet with hot water bottles in the mountains. I'd dearly love a modern-ish camper, my son lives near Marseille so Lolls & I drive down alternate years for a few weeks.

I love Southport too, and your sunset. We’re in a caravan site by he Shropshire Union canal in Cheshire. The weather is a great improvement on Storm Ali last week!
