Thankyou Ger
Hi the first thing you may get is a spirometry test, then consultant will discuss results with you, they may also send you for an x-ray unless you had one recently.
Hi battiehattie . 👋
I suppose one of the first things he will do is ask about you questions about your symptoms. How long you've been ill, etc. And like Aberdeenman has said you will likely be asked to undergo a spirometry test and maybe some other tests as well. There's no need to be nervous, look at this as a chance to learn more about your condition and get support from medical professionals to manage your condition. Please don't forget to bring any questions you may have as well.
Wishing you the best for your appointment.

At my 1st session with consultant he asked all the dates of my infections and pneumonias. I wasn't prepared for that so took them (from my medical notes) for the next visit.
I had allergy testing, and lung function tests in a cubicle.
At a follow up I had a ct scan but I think some have a scan at first visit.
It's an idea to take a written list of the facts of your symptoms rather than tell him/her. I'm sure we always miss something important out. Daughter came with me which I was grateful for, two memories are better than one.
I also recall him passing me an inhaler & telling me to show me how I'd use it. So take your own with it's spacer.
Good luck, it'll be fine. P
Hi BH, You don’t say if you have already had a ct scan and a definite diagnosis.
It is usual to be weighed and have spirometry. Your consultant will take down your medical history and your synptoms. As has already been said by your friends here it is a good idea to write any questios you have, althoug I find it is a good idea to write them down in bullet points or you can get a bit lost during consultation. S/he will probably talk about some of the questions you have before you have asked them. If you have not been diagnosed then I would expect con to arrange for a full lung function test and a ct scan. Will also probably arrange for a sputum sample.
If you have already been diagnosed then your con will explain the results of any tests or ct scans you have had. They will probably refer you to a respiratory physiotherapist and may refer you to an immunologist. All these things may not happen on your first visit.
If you have any specific questions or are in need of reassurance, please don’t hesitate to ask on here. There are lots of folks here with bronchiectasis.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Cx
