think you will be fine if o2 is high and your not on oxygen
Hi. I have stage 2 COPD and had no problem flying to Venice or Spain from the UK. On a couple of flights I used an oximeter to check my spO2 and found it stayed at about 98%. At home I get readings of 98-100% normally.
I did take the precaution of using NasalGuard around my nostrils and breathing through my nose all the time, using Vick's First Defence once I was away from public transport, and repeatedly cleaning my hands with sanitiser, plus avoiding touching my face with my hands. This is to avoid picking up other people's germs.
I have Stage 4 --22% FEV 1 -- and still fly. I use a wheelchair in the airport -- and get early seating -- but am still able to fly without issues. Yes -- take -- an oximeter. Good to check saturation
levels.
Best wishes!
Hi sovereign 123, I have COPD , don't know what stage I have,I don't have a problem with flying ,I fly twice or three times a year, just take things slowly and take deep breaths.
Susan,
Not at all -- glad you asked. I could be the strange one here -- but the answer is No. I am
not on oxygen when I fly. I carry a POC but have not used it during flights. I am actually
fine when we are in the air.
My biggest issues are getting on the plane and getting off. Once I'm seated and settled in
my saturation levels are good and I do not experience SOB.
Again --I may be a bit odd but so far --I have not used oxygen while in flight.
Others may have very different experiences -- I know people with higher FEV-1's than I who do use oxygen .
Hope that helps.
All the Best!
