Hello Billf .

I'm really sorry it's so hard for you at the moment. How long have you had Emphysema? And are you able to talk with anyone about how you are feeling?

Sending warm wishes,

Cas xx 🌸

Hello Bill, many on here suffer from emphysema and other chronic lung problems and we are all here to help you. Please don’t feel alone but do talk to us.

You can live a good life by taking gentle exercise, eating healthily and generally taking care of yourself.

You can also call BLF helpline during office hours on 03000 555 030 Mon-Fri where someone can talk to you. Take care xxxxx

Hi Billf - our established members have given you sound advice,so there's not much more I could add to be honest. When it comes down to looking at COPD or Emphysema, we all have good days followed by ones where we are so unhappy with what we are faced with. One thing I know for sure is that when I've been feeling so terribly "low" and unable to see any light at the end of that famous tunnel, expressing myself on here did make a difference. It really did. As sassy59 says, you can talk to BLF Nurses in confidence so that might be a good thing for you.

I wish you well and would love you to keep in touch.

Hi Billf I think we all understand how you feel. Depression is very common in those who have COPD. Like you I have emphysema and for years I went on, hiding my misery and refusing to ask for help from my GP. Finally on one occasion when I was in hospital I completely broke down and was prescribed a low dose of antidepressant. It doesn't turn me into a zombie just takes the edge off things. I hope you feel better soon. Sheila x

Hi I too have this terrible disease but you must not wish to be dead, work around it. Pace yourself to do things more slowly, yes you may still get breathless so sit down and wait until it passes. Admit there are things your lack of energy prevent you from doing and get them done A.N.other. The tiredness, just let it come over you, record items in case you nod off and watch them later. I know from bitter experience it's all a bit frustrating but accept it is now a fact of life. Eat well do some exercise within you comfort zone. I've managed to renew aqaintances with my cousins and this partly keeps me busy.

Please do not get downhearted, there are treatments out there if you wish to explore, lung transplants, lung reduction, lung coils & valves and stem cell treatments, there are also "trial" sites advertising for applicants, try Clinical Trials Connect. news letter at ticeba.com,I've been all over the world (By email) inquiring but in my case I also have a cancer which makes me a no no. You may have better luck.

Apart from the greatadvice above, See if there is a Breathe easy group in your area so that you can meet others with the same condition. If you haven't been referred for pulmonary rehab ask your GP to make a referral. I found pulmonary rehash a great help and am just about to check out the local breathe easy group. Don't give up. Hugs and best wishes x

It's ok to feel depleated but the depletion gives more room to work with ....let the feeling pass and start positive

Hi Billf:

Honestly; I felt the same way until I started reading comments and suggestions from this group everyone is awesome. Hell, sometimes I say "I' dying from this disease so might as well have a smoke", wrong way to think. I stay away from greesy foods , milk products, especially ice cream, which I love. Hang in their, easy for me to say, but; dont be afraid to reach out. sending you hugs from Canada Sandy
