Hi.8 yrs ago I started getting flem ..The docs said it was athsma ..but just last year they said its broncostsises..I take antiboiotic 3 times a year , and then the flem cones back ..the last 2 years I got flu shot and It seems that the flegm has lessened since.but if i tire mysele with work or stenious activities it starts all over again..i had a broncoscopy and ct scan and I had immunolgy tests done..the results are just broncocastsies..which make me get very often lung infections the results are H .infulenze bacteria from my flegm.I have 3 small children and I am also very succeptable to their colds.I feel tired and have head aches alot. But i havent stopped my hobby as a underwater spearfisherman which Seems to help as I dive 20 meters and hold my breath long , which might be good as lung activity .the deep water diving I do 3 or 4 times a month ..the doctors here in Crete , Greece say I can continue doing whatever activities I did before being diagnosed.does any one have any ideas on this ..thxss Elias

Do you see a respiratory physio? They would suggest daily breathing exercises to help clear the mucus from your lungs. The active cycle of breathing can be found on many yountube videos but an actual physio really is necessary. I'm not sure what the protocol is where you are but here it's fairly standard if you have Bronchiectasis. I would suggest you speak to your doctor about it, it does really help apparently.

Hello Aleandra .

Welcome to the forum. It's nice to have you here.

It's so wonderful to have a hobby you love. And if the doctors say you are okay to continue, then you should , if that's what you want to do.

I don't have the same condition, but there are many here that do. I think they can give you some good insight.

I hope you can keep doing what you enjoy for a very long time. 🐟🐑🐚

Best wishes.

Hi Elias and a very warm welcome to you.

Constant mucus production is part and parcel of having bronchiectasis. I frequently grow haemphilus, along with all the other nasties. Not sure how the health system works in Greece but they seem to have covered the tests to get your diagnosis CT scan and bronchoscopy and good they have sent to to an immunologist. I was hoping to hear they had given you a sweat test to illiminate cf. One of the main things which your consultant should do for you is to refer you to a respiratory physiotherapist to teach you all the different techniques and PEP gadgets (all of which will help you to do your own physio every day). This is the most important thing we can do for ourselves as if the mucus is left to pool in the dilated pockets within our lungs then it is a breeding ground for infection. (Better out than in as they say).

Hope this helps

It’s a little bit out of date as written in 2010 but is a pretty good guide.

Or this which I was lucky enough to be involved with

Anything specific you want to know ask away. There will usually be someone around who can help or point you in the right direction.

By the way - the more exercise the better, so enjoy your hobby.

Hello cofdrop!Thank you very much for your reply it was very helpful and kind of you.

I connected onto the attached and read in greek all the info.

It has benn the best info that we have ever read.I realize that the phlem that Is in my lungs comes out easier while I'am underwater fishing.

Its a very tiring sport I usually get soo tired after 8 hours of underwater freestyle sprarfishing which demands my lungs to use all their abilities..and I think working the lungs soo much helps the mucus come up.

I dive 15 to 25 meters on my weekly fishing trips.I really feel that It helps ..but the exaustion right after fishing lowers my immune system which might also add to me catching a cold or again and the bug comming back..or catching a bug(type of cold) from my children which kids often carry ..But I have good test results better lung results than others whitout this sickness that show spirograph and in general the doc says keep doing what i do.. but after reading the attachment that you sent I realise I must try to get the mucus out the clear mucus that is in the lungs in between infections.. so Instead of me having 3 infections per year I will hope That number is reduced..Its great to share this with you ..knowing we understand eachother...stay strong cofdrop!! Have a blessed day friend! And if you are ever at Chania Crete I will be happy to treat you to a gouper fresh from the sea..and right off the fire🏝🐟🌴
