chest infections and planning things

do other members find it so hard to plan ahead especially during the winter months , like going out where tickets are involved or booking things , as you can guarantee you will be fine up till the date and bang along comes another chest infection so you have to cancel , or is it just me , thank you every one for the welcoming messages yesterday

Hi Tom60 I took up swimming and met some a bunch of really nice people we go out to see shows and meals but they understand if I have a chest infection I don't go out and during this time of year I'm very careful where I go

hello sounds like you keep your self active and have a good social life with your friends that's good , I'm afraid I never did learn to swim perhaps I should have as often in deep water with the wife with my comments to her ,

Your never to old to learn to swim Tom60, I like the social side with my friends but going swimming gets you out no more watching soaps you should join us sounds like your a bit of a cheeky Tom where your wife's concerned lol

I most certainly do Hidden , and it's a pain. It never used to be a problem, but now that I'm widowed it has become a major one when planning ahead. Of course at 86 and poorly, I could drop dead at any time, which would not be a problem, for me. But to deliberately land myself in a situation over which I have no control is something I dread. So, any plans that I make are on the spur of the moment, which is why I love my campervan (which resembles a mobile chemists shop). Feeling fit, weather good, dog happy, off we go. If there's a show I want to see I phone late availability and nearly always get a single seat.

sounds like you do remarkably well at 86 don with the camper van must be nice to just be able to go for a few days where ever the mood takes you , I know what you mean about the mobile chemist I said to the girl at the doctors when I picked my stuff up if they give me any more I'm going to have to bring the wheelbarrow to get it home ,

I dont have much confidence with my chest. I always keep a rescue pack of antibs in my drawer. I have had so much chest infections. At first they were really bad, but when I was put on azithromycin, I went a long time without illness. I think now the azithromycin isn't working like it used so the infections have come back in a milder form.

in reply topergola

thinks it the problem with tablets our bodies get use to them after a while , but at least yours are milder infections now

No Tom60 it’s not just you - some mornings I feel like staying in bed all day It is an effort to keep hospital appointments and when I do I see other patients who clearly should not be there. Some time ago my hospital scheduled me for 3 monthly scans. I explained my fatigue and mobility problems to my consultant who agreed to 6 monthly scans. I am not suggesting anyone follows my example as we all have different lung problems and are at different stages — mine is IPF

in reply toBillBruce

hello bruce I do hate the hospital doctor appointments I know they cant help it but you get patients coughing and sneezing all over the place I'm sitting there thinking am I going to be worse then when I first got here ,

Yes especially during the winter months. We tend not to go far from home as l don’t want Pete to catch anything. It’s very difficult to book anything but Spring and Summer are generally better. Xxxx

hello sassy , roll on spring time I see the bulbs are poking though so wont be to long ,

Hi Tom

I still plan though I have to cancel things sometimes. If I don’t plan I feel negative and I don’t want to. I need to feel life is worth living. I have a travel bag full of meds and machinery.

However I am not going trekking for example, I pick and choose attainable targets as I am not allowed to fly, I already feel restricted in where to go..

Plus I always think a change is as good as a rest. Sometimes a change of air does wonders, even though I’m not looking to the journey ahead.

Take care this winter x

Fran

I find it very hard Tom but much more now because of the IBS and SIBO. I much prefer to be spontaneous but even then I can get into trouble. I have to take risks with forward tickets etc and be prepared to lose money. I have given up so much that I love doing, especially stuff to do with furthering the lot of folks with BE, but again not because of the BE, but more the IBS/SIBO - travel, hotels, any meetings and hot climates on very little food. So yes friendships sometimes turn out not to be what you thought they were and some friendships surprise you as they turn out to be true friends and your world can get smaller. I do try though if I think it's achievable.
