Does anyone know where I can get a Sputum Colour Chart. It can help doctors to work out the state of an infection a patient has. The colours goefrom colourless to yellow, to green to brownish red. I think it would help us sufferers to know when we should get an anti-biotic to rid us of our infection . It would also be a reminder to give a specimen to be analysed for the many different bugs in it and to get the appropriate anti-biotic.

Scottish Chest Heart and Stroke Association has a very good leaflet on bronchiectasis which has a good chart. It is downloadable.
Hi Chrys. I agree with Carnival567 the CHSS booklet on Living with Bronchiectasis is the best available at the moment. The sputum chart is on page 12
chss.org.uk/documents/2013/... Having said that, it's best to go by what's normal for you eg my sputum is always purulent & very sticky but I only worry when it goes green or brown (usually accompanied by a foul taste too.)
Hi Hanne62, What a very good booklet this is. I spoke with my consultant today about the colour chart and he thought it was a good idea to be able to have some guidelines as to when anti-biotics are needed. Thank you again, I found the information in this booklet excellent and if any other sufferers are reading this to go and check it out. Chrys
