Take 2 try!

Hi,

Sorry I had to rewrite this post & make a new account cos for some reason it wouldn’t let me access that account.

Can I ask what a chest infection feels like? Also can you have a chest infection without any symptoms like funky secretions, high temp or a cough but have chest pain on front of lungs & on the back of the lungs when you breathe in & out?

Also what does a collapsed lung feel like, I ask cos I am on a non invasive ventilator 24/7 & so can’t tell if I am breathless cos the ventilator does my breathing, so wasn’t sure if there was any other symptoms with a collapsed lung?

Also what does pleurisy feel liked to you?

Thank you for your replies!

Probably best to ask your doctor about chest infection since everyone is different. Have never had collapsed lung, thank God, but doctor told me I would know it if it happened because there would be pain and breathing issues all of a sudden. Also something to ask the doctor about. Good luck!

I often just get back pain or chest pain when I have a chest infection without the other symptoms but that’s only because I know my body. Sometimes when I get the pains I know it’s a pulled muscle through coughing too much and that’s because there is a slight difference in the pain. And like catfinger77 said if you had a collapsed lung it would be very painful. You definitely need to speak to your doctor and ask them all the questions that you want to know. It can be very scary when you don’t know what’s happening and obviously you want to know the different symptoms to look out for. Wishing you the best. 🤗

I have had a collapsed lung some years ago. One of the symptoms is that when you try to take a deep breath you experience a very sharp pain that prevents you from doing so. You are only able to take shallow breaths. Hope that helps. Chrys

As one who has had many lung collapses starting at age 17 (I'm 51 now) my experience has always been the same, the pain is unmistakable and intense, particularly when taking in a deep breath. Though I've always had long lungs and blebs (bullous lung disease 'emphysema') I've only recently been diagnosed as mild to moderate COPD with FEV1 72% because I smoked for 30 some-odd years (quit 8 years ago). During the tests my pulmonologist took an xray and a CT Scan and was pleased that neither lung was collapsed, when he told me this I laughed a little bit because I told him when a lung collapses there's no questions, I rush to the hospital as fast as possible and get that tube put in. I've been lucky not to have it happen in the last 17 years or so, however I do have slipping rib syndrome and that can simulate a lung collapse, fortunately I've had enough of them that I can now tell the difference but at first it was difficult to tell.
