Hi, i seem to be getting conflicting opinions again. I have been under three different hospitals so far. I am undergoing pulmonary rehab at the moment and they state it does not matter how low my oxygen sats go down during excersice, as they had not read any proof it will do me any harm. Is this correct.

Hi

Strange comments, I was put on Ambulitory oxygen for pulmonary rehabilitation, due to oxygen desaturation on walking. Down to 83% started on 2lpm.

Since increased to 4lpm

Some reading.

Hello i know they say getting breathless is not harmful. Is the class being run by pulmonary nurses. It is not good for your stats to drop too much. Speak to the specialist

Don’t breathe out too much when you exercise like blowing the candle etc I was told bresthe normally and don’t talk

Frankly Im shocked to read what you say. Who are the "they" you mention? Usually before you do PR you get assessed by specialist physiotherapists and part of that is doing a 6 minute walk test which is to check your oxygen saturation. If you desaturate below 88% you are recommended for ambulatory oxygen. Oxygen is given to prevent damage to your vital organs, in particular your heart. It is not usually given for breathlessness.

Please do read the article from the link Stone has given you above. And if you want to get some independent advice you can phone the BLF helpline - 03000 030 555 office hours - and speak to one of their nurses who will give you advice on this.

Hi it matters a lot if your desaturating when exercising....we can all get breathless and if you get to short of breath stop and rest until normal for you ....but lack of oxygen can affect you...pose the question again to them to ensure your own safety ...hope you enjoy the PR such as it sounds you have been conflicting information.
