...and that extra year they tagged on later than the original extension. Hit a woman when she's down.

in reply tomoogle

It was more than a year moogle. I was due to get my pension at 63 when they did another jump to make it 65 and 4 months. A friend who is 10 months older than me got hers at 63. x

I was able to retire 6 years ago at 61 and feel much better now I've retired. Apart from sharing an office with a not very nice woman, I can now devote more time to clearing out my clogged-up lungs and hence fewer infections. Also I worked in a university where there were lots of coughs and colds going around ☹️.

in reply tomoodygirl

You were lucky moodygirl to only have to wait 1 extra year. Mine is 5 years and 4 months extra. Grhh x

Lil by a freak of nature i think i am going to still get mine when i am 65 in 6 months time,so i will always help you deprived ladies in your times of financial need (so that's £140. divided by ?)how far can i stretch this meagre sum out,lol x plus don'i forget food for Scruffy.

in reply toskischool

Hi just checked on Gov.UK and it looks like you will. Lucky you. Don't forget though that pension credit stopped April 2017 and everyone after that date will be on the new pension which is based entirely on your NI contributions. You must have 35 years or more.

It might sound like not a lot of money and it's not but don't forget if you qualify you won't pay rent or council tax. The money you get is purely for your bills. You have nothing else you have to pay out of it. When you think someone in minimim wage or near also has to pay out rent and council tax, fares to get to work and more clothes are needed. I bet they would love to have £140 a week just for their monthly bills. x

Lil what part of cloud cukoo land do you live on my dear.i will stay pay council tax less 25% for single occupancy, all other bills for heating, water, house insurance, food(plus extra for scruffy)i do not pay rent cos i saved all my life(kids don't know of that word)to pay off mortgage,i will stop mid flow for you(tribute to margaret atwood on bbc 2 as we speak, are you going to watch?x

in reply toskischool

If you have other income coming in from either a partner or other pensions or savings over £16,000 a year then yes you will pay council tax or at least some of it.

My father had pension credits and no savings etc. and I once worked out that he would have needed to take home at least £300 a week if he had been working to be on equivalent money.

Many in my area earn less than that. My sister who was a carer would have needed to work 60 hours a week for that kind of money.

Ok if you have always been on a good wage then you do take a massive drop, but my dear dad who had worked his socks off all his life in a low paid job said he had never been so well off.

You would find it hard to run a car, go on many hols abroad, eat out a lot or buy expensive bottles of wine on a basic state pension.

It's all a matter of expectation I guess. x

I was 60 on the 1st October and thought nothing of it tbh until I rang the Wales Millennium Centre yesterday to book some tickets for a show there. The lady I spoke to asked if there were any senior citizens in the group. I asked what qualified as a 'senior' and she said "over 55"!!

I nearly screamed!!!

Thats a good one , I am involved with a group where over 50 is an older person. Age uk say over 55 for senior, and sheltered accomodation for older people is usually 55 too, however senior is different to pensioner rights. At our theatre we have a group called Shine On for over fifties. It is a sign of the changing times. But share your frustration.

Old age has complications, lots of them, best to enjoy the best bits, better than the alternative.

Eric enjoy your birthday.ironically we are all now classed as the 'Baby Boomers' and supposedly have never had it so good,We are of course to blame for the nations Austerity, shortage of housing stock, education fees, the depletion and drain of the Nhs.Brexit, global warming and anything else that comes along. We should all be lined up and terminated but recent defence cuts mean there are not enough bullets for all of us 'old g*ts' lol xxxxxxxxxxxxx aged Skis and a mid life cat
