Can anyone on this very helpful forum know if dust from building in my home can cause a chest infection. I only slept there for two nights, but I did end up with a chest infection causing real SOB. THANK YOU

A tough question, all I can say, without going into a detail, is probably yes, dust, stone-dust in particular can cause an infection. I cannot confirm it of course, but it is a smoking gun.

Thank you 2greys. I'll just have to stay away from the house until it is finished better safe than sorry

Hi it could well have caused an exacerbation but not sure about a chest infection.

The problem with stone-dust is that it is very sharp and can get lodged in the airways causing an infection. Volcanic dust can also have the same effect. In the worse case scenario, daily exposure can lead to Silicosis or "miners disease" another chronic lung disease.

Hello hopetorun. I have had to move out as well. Fortunately my son and partner have a house up north so I was able to stay there I. Did try to come back but it only took 2 days to get an infection. The building work will take 2 months so I've a way to go yet
