Choosing not to smoke is the best thing you can do...everyone is different size age weight etc exercise regular proper diet so the progression with everyone is different also xxx

You have to change your lifestyle as Angiecbr suggests. Do it all correctly and the progression of lung deterioration will fall back to the normal lung aging deterioration rate :) Being mild the odds are that you will never have any real symptoms that will cause you problems. Stop being scared the anxiety will make you ill. You have other health problems that you should be concentrating on, mild Emphysema is not something you should worry about if you change your lifestyle to a healthy one.

Everybody is different but stopping smoking is the biggest single thing we can do to fight back and slow the disease down. Second biggest is exercise. :)

Generally accepted worldwide that if you stop smoking do not get bad infections and stay away from gases, spray painting and al damaging materials it should slow down to normal ageing of the lungs 1,2% per annum. (Smokers 1,9 to 2,2%) Only thing is we are a bit in front as we got an early start. I believe that exercising and eating a healthy diet can even slow it down more but where to get the time if you work from 6 till 6? I'm wasted when I get home. Lung specialist said I'm just on the border or into second stage and because we've got a much drier climate and our winters are similar to your summers in the UK but completely dry (Less chance of infections), I can live up to a ripe old age God willing, and probably something else will take me down. I'm almost 60.

Sorry I forgot something - don't panic and worry because that will take you down more than the COPD - you will die in your head if you keep it there, so read what the old folk and people with a lot of experience with the disease says on the site. I was planning my funeral when I first found out and nearly picked the songs to sing. I know its easier said than done but whenever morbidity creeps up on me I go and physically climbed the Magalies mountain (Right behind my house 2.5 Km up and obviously what goes up must come down) Then I say to myself you may sound like a steam locomotive but you are alive !!!! Does me the world of good.

yes but you have help with your meds and stuff from foundation and everyone keeps saying that because I have diabetes and I also have cerebral palsy mild I can still do exercise but for how long?i really don't think ill make it too far I don't want to lose my ability to breathe normally its too much for me to take in I'm only 58 I realize I did this to myself but id rather not breathe like a horse.
