The Blame is on me.....

I don't know how to cope with knowing I did this to myself by smoking. I quit 30 years ago. I'm in good health otherwise n I would be on top of the world now enjoying life. But I'm not n I did it to myself.

Dear Massey,The general rule of thumb on this site is we do not beat ourselves up on the subject of smoking. Many of us smoked in the past,Most have given up our old friend some are still trying to give up.some have never smoked at all,but we are all here hopefully to support each other and nobody is going to beat you up or want you to do likewise.Welcome to the site.......skis

Hi Massey firstly welcome to the family, Al I can say and that is the more time you spend looking back the less time we spend going forward, we can't do nothing about the past but we can certainly map out our future.

Ian

we all live in the world of what if's and done things we regret now we just have to get on with life, when I smoked for a short period of time in my 30's my parents tore a strip off me my reply well you taught me

Hi MasseyMo, it's forty years since I smoked but it was double pneumonia 23 years ago that started my lung difficulties off, and I had whooping cough when I was a child, and my father was an inveterate pipe smoker....so who knows what the reason is.

People often forget that coal fires were common years ago, and cigarette smoke was everywhere.......cinemas, pubs, buses , trains , restaurants, work places even hospitals......impossible to avoid it.

I remember when passive smoking started to be recognised, now diesel is seen as a problem.

Have you been referred to Pulmonary Rehab which can help you understand and manage your COPD.

So did most of us. It doesn't do any good beating yourself up about it as we can't change it can we. Learn to accept you are only human like the rest of us and move on.

Nice to meet you.

Greetings

You have enough to deal with, without making your life a misery because of the "if only" syndrome. It's done, but if you stopped smoking 30 years ago, then you get a gold star from me: I was old enough to know better but daft enough to carry on. Exercise is the answer: slow walking, slow anything. New drugs and treatments are appearing all the time. Just accept life for what it is, and cope :)

Not what you're looking for?
