I only have Prednisone when I have an exacerbation. I have it and antibiotics as my emergency medication. Daily I have Spiriva, Symbicort and Montelucast.

Mines similar toDeepbreaths, I have Predisolone (must be similar to predisinone) and antibiotics as emergency meds. They've just changed me from symbicort to Spirimax but I'm not improving or impressed with it. Montelukast and my saviour go to spray, ventolin.

Me too, i.e. I have Prednisolone and antibiotics as emergency meds, but my daily med is Seretide (and, of course, my trusty ole Ventolin). Mind you, since I was switched from Symbicort Turbuhaler to Seretide a few years ago, my asthma has improved dramatically. No more hospital admittances - woo hoo! 😀

Do you want a list? I am 74 and diagnosed twenty years ago and still able to walk a short distance. I am on 5mg prednisolone daily, omeprazole for reflux, phyllocontin, spironolactone and furosemide which are water tablets and Adcal-D3 for my bones. Also salbutamol, spirova and seretide inhalers. I think the noise when I walk is me rattling. Keep smiling

Hi Carole, I reckon you keep your local pharmacy in business but then again if they do the trick that's all to the good. Try not to rattle to loudly ha ha.

I'm on Spiriva Respimat, Symbicort and will soon start Encruse Ellipta which seems to do a whole lot better in soothing everything down first thing in the morning and requires only one puff daily, It will take the place of Spiriva.

I also use albuterol and Qunol Mega CoQ10 which is more of a vitamin.

Oxygen occasionally.

Hi,

I got these off the internet.

a) Prednisone has no substantial biological effects until converted via hepatic (liver) metabolism to prednisolone.(From Wikipedia)

b)This is because prednisone needs to be converted by liver enzymes into prednisolone before it can work.

Price wise, prednisone is usually much cheaper than prednisolone.(From drugs.com)

I prefer prednisolone in an emergency as it doesn't have to be converted via the liver.

Hello there, I am just weaning off of prednisolone and as of Monday I shall be on Esbriet, its supposed to do the same job but more efficiently, but there are side effects that virtually guarantee me feeling nauseous, having diaorrhoea and making my skin sensitive to sunlight, so I will have to wear a hat, gloves, long sleeves and strong sunblock, but I will put up with that if it gives me a bit longer to live, I have IPT, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, not much more I can say really.
