Hi gordyboy and a very warm welcome. There are lots of people with copd and some people with bronchiectasis who would be most happy to chat with you. I have had bronchiectasis for 69 years on Monday and asthma much more recently.

Is there anything specific you would like to discuss, there will always be someone around to have a chat with.

Hi Cofdrop thanks for your reply, curious as to which treatments others are receiving with reae conditions. I have had Amoxycillin,Doxycycline.Ceftrioxane whici seems to be the most successful. The bacterium which keeps appearing in my lungs is Hydrophillious influenza which all the antibiotics seem to keep at bay for a while but always come back. The latest treatment I've had is 14days of Intra venious Ceftrioxand followed by 2 weeks of Azithromyicin 3times daily followed by 1 week of Azithromyicin once daily followed Azihromyicin once daily on Mon,Wed, and Fri. Now with the infection returning I'm on 2 weeks of Amoxicillin 3times daily. Also have been diagnosed with Chronic Myloid Leukemia which needs another Chemo tablet.

Welcome any comments/advice

Regards Gordyboy

Sorry you have a lot to deal with gordyboy.

I am colonised with heamophylus influenzae and like you I would go a short period following abs and it would raise it's ugly head again. It's very frustrating. How long did you go following the IVs? Lots of people are on Azithromycin 1 three times a week and t does seem to help to dampen down the frequency of infections. Unfortunately I am infolerant to them.

Has your consultant referred you to an immunologist I wonder. It might be worth asking your consultant if nebulising an ab would be beneficial for you.

I really wish you well.

Hi again and thanks for reply I had the IV at the beginning of November last and to be honest I thought that it had sent the bacteria packing but no however it stayed away until mid April, which saw me through the winter and begs the question Can the IV/abs procedure be repeated when needed.

I am not in any way trivialising what is a struggle for you but I would be ecstatic if I managed to go 5 months without HI being problematic.

Re IVs, I think this is a conversation you really need to have with your consultant.

Good wishes

Hi again Yes it is certainly something I plan to discuss with consultant but next appt in June. When things are not going too well I find the biggest problem is the riddance of Sputum although I usually manage quite well with the Breathing excercises and use of accapella and the Huff coughing. I've always been proactive (a nuisance at times) and am planning my next move when the Sputum gets to be too stubborn. Years and years ago when I was a Macho man I had an ABS building machine which delivers 3 different types of massage and am saving that in reserve to apply to my back to massage Lungs.

Have to be careful with the AB's being mindful of the interactions with the Chemo.

Will let you know how things progress

Yes I can see that could be problematic. I always find my pharmacist to be the best person to discuss drug interactions with.

Please do let us know. Know the feeling re physio but it is a must for us.
