Hi folks, I am on oxygen 20/24 and sometimes that small gap isn't enough if I want to go out and shop or see friends, so question from me is have any of you driven with your oxygen ???

Thank you in advance xxx

I always drive with my oxygen. Full mask at 15L per minute. Checked with insurance and police. No problems x

I have many times and have not had any problems. Just make sure your cylinder is secured in the car.

Hi jjnanna, I've been driving for years with my oxygen and never had any problems. It never occurred to me that I couldn't or shouldn't. I've since checked with my Insurance company and they said it made no difference to our insurance costs.

I now have a portable concentrator but when I was using a cylinder, the company that supplied the cylinders also provided stickers for the car warning that oxygen was being carried.

Yes, indeed. Let your insurance company know. You won't be penalised but they should know.

Happy driving, Sue x

I have no idea what the answer is so I'll leave it to the lovely people here to advise.

What I do know is that DVLA have a scary list of conditions that we have to, by law, report to DVLA if we have them! Have a look ... the list goes on forever yet no one knows about it!

A portable oxygen concentrator will run from a car cigarette lighter. These can be supplied by your oxygen company or can be bought.

Well guys went out today with my portable tank nestled on the back seat and me in the front, which worked well as I wasn't all caught up in the tube like I usually am !! Went to meet my friend and had a lovely lunch and a short shop then home again, put myself back on big machine when I returned home, so all in all an eventful day which I shall most definately make a habit of...... thanks for your help x

I suspect that it's all been covered here, but have my two penn'orth. I have my cylinder on the passenger seat, secured by the seat belt through the carry-handle. I can adjust the flow that way. I also keep a spare in the boot, and have a notice (supplied by my oxygen company) stuck on the rear window, off side, saying there's oxygen in the car.

I use a cannula, rather than a face mask; no problems there either. Go on, do it -- get out and enjoy life!

Thanks Catnip, I had a great time with friends and only used it in the car as even the portable is too heavy to carry !! I only use mine on No1 so put it on the back seat and secured it with seat belt and put tube through headrest and it was fine.... am going to be a lot freer now lol xx
