Help
I think you need to give us some more information. Are you on holiday? If so can't insurance company help? Have you spoken to airline? Oxygen levels need to be carefully worked out by medics. You can't just purchase it.
Would think your wife needs a fit to fly certificate to start with.
Why do you think she needs oxygen? Surely if still required she would still be in hospital?
Want to help but need more information.
The hospital should provide for your wife all that she needs. Do you have health insurance or E111(?) If you live in Spain contact the British Consulate if you can.
More info would be helpful. Good luck to you. Xx
Hi, ? Insurance or not?
Must haves........
Medics need to give prescription of litreage required, if they think you're wife needs O2 to travel
Then she needs certificate to fly signed by dr and past by airline
Then airline may give O2 on flight.
Once home your Gp will deal with whatever.
O2 is a dangerous commodity and is very regulated. Follow all guidelines & its brilliant
Good luck
Just thought, unless you can hire a concentrator but you'll still need to know from a Drs prescription the litres/min your wife requires & clear with airline.
Sorry about your wife Trevor, mine is on home liquid oxygen. For travel (consider some airlines won't help) did you consider hiring an oxygen concentrator. It's a handy and portable battery powered device that throws out nitrogen and delivers an oxygen flow of over 2 litres a minute. Best of luck, Mario
I hope they soon sort this for ur wife now u got the advice. best wishes to u both
Hello Trevor. May I ask why you believe that your wife needs oxygen? What is her current blood/oxygen level? The sensor on her finger would have been producing a readout in the hospital.
I am on oxygen 24/7 and have been for a fair number of years. My O2 readings on oxygen are about 91 - 92%, but if my oxygen is taken away my level heads towards 82% very quickly.
If your wife was discharged and told that she was fit to fly then I would suggest that the hospital regard that oxygen is not required at the present. A simple check up at a clinic will easily show a digital display of what her current oxygen is.
As for when arriving home in UK then your GP can arrange oxygen testing and prescription. People with lung conditions do not always need oxygen all the time. If your wife had an infection then she may have needed O2 just until the bug was cured.
Hope this helps.
My husband had lung cancer but he wasn't given oxygen at all. He was prescribed Lorazepam to help his breathing, Although breathing was difficult his O2 levels were 94%.
It may well be OK to fly without Oxygen.
