Hi all 😊 yes 3 weeks smoke free ( did it cold turkey)  got diagnosed with COPD Last year. Don't miss smoking at all but my breathing is So much worse now I've given up. My question is - if I had a ciggie would my breathing go back to how it was before I quit??

Your breathing will improve once your body's cleared out all the gunk that it's been hanging onto. Don't undo the good work that you've started by risking another ciggie now.

No please dont do that I gave up cold turkey 9 years ago after smoking for 50 years your chest will clear and you will be able to breathe easier, you are doing so well do keep going and you will reap the benefits in your wallet as well.  Take Care x

The bad part is just your body getting used to working again without all the toxins. Trust me, it will sort itself out and you'll feel so much better xxx

Absolutely not veganista, your breathing will not get better if you start smoking again.

Congratulations for being smoke free for 3 weeks, that's fantastic! Give yourself a pat on the back.

Once all the toxins are out of your system & lungs, you'll feel so much better. Your lung condition will not progress as fast as it will if you don't stop.

Please be strong & don't undo 3 weeks good work. 🌻

Big congrats veganista, that's brilliant.  Don't even think about having a cig.  If i was you i would talk to your GP about getting some help with the breathlessness until you return to normal (normal for you, that is).

Keep on letting us know how you are doing.  We are all behind you in your new "quit" life :)

Well done - you've conquered it!! Yes, you feel hellish - and probably will do for another month or two - but all things pulmonary are getting better already even although you don't feel it yet.

Please don't smoke again , please, please, please!!

Good luck.

If you start to smoke again now it will be WORSE than it ever was! (Been there, done that). After I finally quit never to start again it took +/- 3 months before I started to feel better and at 9 months was SO much better. Added benefit was that my FEV1 improved! So do yourself a favour and keep on this path of NEVER smoking again.

NO! Don't ever go back to a fag my friend! I gave up cold turkey 7 moiinths ago, I'm 73 and smoked for 50 odd years!! I had the same experience, felt absolutely terrible in the beginning. You have to remember that for instance the damage to my lungs was over 50 years! They are not going to get better in three weeks. But it does get better. The main thing is to visit the doctor until you get the right mix of meds. JUST DO NOT GIVE UP. We all know, that one ciggy never stays at one anyweay. Best of luck and keep at it.

Yes it would. I gave up smoking after several attempts and many chest infections, resulting in sob, wheezing and each time the symptoms improved after prednisone and antibiotics, so I'd start smoking again and I'd be back to square one. The ONLY way to improve is to stop smoking.

You know the answer to that -NO! It's the same as alcoholics, it just takes the one to lead to the next and you're back where you started. Your body is adjusting so give it a chance.

I think that everyone is saying the same thing...NO!  You'll begin to feel better soon.

Hang in there, and good luck!

Yes a cigarette will improve your breathing in the short term. It relaxes the muscles in the short term, you know that you never have one cigarette and if you have started on the quitting road then stay on it. It takes a while but the benefits do come through in the end.

Congrats for quitting maybe. Panic fag is a really good way to describe it.

I'm still staying strong but i must admit that my breathing being So much worse is really testing my resolve
