Hi I have serve copd with a fev of 18%. I am now experiencing difficulties with driving, I am alright driving but getting in and out of my car makes me very sob. I do not want to lose my independence by stopping driving, so if anyone can help me by giving me some tips on getting in and out of the car I would be very grateful.

Hi I'm same fev1 18% I get same getting in car I just give myself plenty time so once in car just sit and relax until my breathing under control
Hi I have heard vaguely of a round thing which swivels when you put it on your seat. All you need to do it sit down and it will then turn you round. This might help. Not sure what it is called though I am sure Amazon would sell it. Will have a look. x
Hi just googled Amazon then put in swivel car seat and loads come up. They aren't expensive and might help. x
My husband had problems with getting in and out of cars so I bought one of these and it made a huge difference.
It makes a difference having a car with a driver's seat about the same height as your backside, like my Smart car. With the swivel seat device mentioned above it takes very little effort to get in and out. The hardest bit is lifting my legs in and out one by one with my arms when I'm not having a good day.
I have just bought a Renault Kangoo, it is lovely just the right height for me as I am short and have severe COPD, so I can still drive. It is automatic which is a bonus and I had a hoist fitted to lift my mobility scooter in and out. The boot is big enough without having to put the back seats down! Roll on the end of April when I am off to Weymouth for a few days. I meet my daughter who lives in Hertfordshire there so we can have a few days together catching up. Keep smiling
