Recent chest xray

I was diagnosed with bullous emphysema by CT scan 7 years ago, I had a recent chest xray and the bulla didn't show up...is this normal? Could the bullous have gone??

Hi, Kim. I haven't experienced your situation, but I did wonder if it's to do with the differences between having a CT scan and an X-ray - the CT scans may be much more precise than the older X-ray technology. Maybe you could give the BLF a call to see what the trained nurses say.

Thank you so much for responding, I am sort of new to the site, I have been lurking and reading post for a while but have not commented much! sometimes you feel so alone with this condition and the GP isnt always helpful I learn a great deal from the post I read

Hi I have a large bulla 11.5cm x 6.5cm I had an X-ray in 2014 which showed it as being 7cm but the C.T showed it larger, I asked them to check an X-ray done in 2010 when no bulla was reported, but after looking again it was confirmed that is was indeed there,the explanation given was that the bulla was hard to see and it took a very experienced radiographer to spot it n 2014 so my guess is yours was not picked up on the X-ray but is still there,maybe request another c.t, hope this helps

when I had an xray nothing showed up but year later I had ct scan and they said lung was covered in them so im guessing they don't show up very well on xray ,im glad to see the site has helped you , we are all here to help and support each other and have a laugh so don't feel a lone always some one else going through the same thing , hope you have a good Christmas and new year take care
