I am diagnosed with mild emphysima ye... - Lung Conditions C...
I am diagnosed with mild emphysima yesterday I'm only 27 female.. I am so scared, Am I gonna die soon?
Know exactly what you mean, I had the same thing when they told me....but that was 14 years ago....just keep on with life as normal as you can, and when you can.
Its your life, Stay in control of it..don't let your health rule what you can or can't do.
There are many wonderful people on here who will give you the benefit of their knowledge, Check in everyday, you'll be amazed what you learn.
And above all stop worrying...Wish you all the very best.
They are just being careful these days as so many of us have been left until severe,so you have a long life ahead of you ,making sure you know t here is nothing to worry. About .
I'm sure you will, being healthy is a good idea don't u think. Getting out and walking or whatever exersize you like doing, you have lots of time to look after your self more.so enjoy life ,watch what u breath in ,look after your lungs. X
Hi, I was diagnosed in 1989 at age 54.
am happy to say I'm still going strong(Ish).
Just get all the help that you can from Health Professionals.
Also take your medication regularly.
Good Luck.
Jinsummer, have you been tested for Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency? 27 is very young to develop emphysema, so you may have the hereditary form.
No,you are not going to die soon, well not because of emphysema. I have this for 25 years and I live on my own and do for myself. Yes,I am limited to what I can do,for example an hours walk takes me 2 hours but as I moved to the Italian countryside from the UK this is no hardship. I am 69 and otherwise in damn good health. I see my Dr for 10 mins a year and that is only for a review. I suggest you avoid any kind of smoke particularly when cooking. Avoid spending too long in a crowded place and move to Italy as the hospitals are superb. Also keep calm. All the best..
Hi Jinsummer, you must not worry yourself like that. some people on here have it far worse than you, and have had it for many years. The one think you must do above everything else is STOP SMOKING if you do smoke. Eat well, and get as much excersize as posssible, walking is a good start. And STOP worrying. Take your medications. Neo.
