Can anyone recommend a particular neti pot? So many available and no idea what to look for! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Nanny

I use NeilMed SinusRinse Saline Nasal Rinse and found it very effective. I used to get a nosebleed every morning when blowing my nose to try to clear sinuses. You can buy online or from most pharmacies.

If you get on well with your pharmacist why not ask for their advice I have found mine excellent for this kind of help.

Regards

Andy

Thanks, Andy. I've heard of the NeilMed I'm sure. Boots don't stock any but I will try the pharmacist at the surgery - never thought to ask there. Thanks again.

I use the NeilMed Sinus Rinse too, I got it from Amazon, I find it really helps when my sinus' are blocked. It's very easy to use too. You must use distilled or boiled water and I buy the pre mixed sachets.

Thanks, nicgum. Yes, I've read some very nasty things have happened to people who've used ordinary tap water. Thanks for the warning.

I read a way and do clear my sinus's from time to time with nothing more than warm water cupped in the hands and a quick snort and it seems to clear me when in the pollen season especially. it is free too. Maybe I am tight ;)

I'm not sure there's a bad netti pot - they all do the job. I've got one you squeeze and the potty one - both neilmed. The blue plastic netti one is microwave safe, and dishwasher safe.. which is useful. They say renew it after 12 months but I've had mine 4 years and use it almost every day (chronic rhinitis)... still looks new and does the job.

A life saver in my case... can't recommend them enough!!!

PS I always worry when someone says use 'boiled water' - maybe obvious, but PREVIOUSLY boiled (kills any germs) water ie it's cooled to tepid.

And in the UK, mains tap cold water should be fine, micro it for a comfortable temperature, 20/30 seconds for a neilmed netti.

Don't use water from the hot, especially if it's from a header tank.

If you use it a lot, it can aggravate (dry) inside the entrance to your nostrils; if it does just put a bit of petroleum jelly on your finger (usual nasal one lol) and spread it round the aggravated area. Works wonders!

Yes, I should have worded that better Soulsaver . The NeilMed sinus rinse bottle can also be sterilised in the microwave.

Thank you for such a full reply, soulsaver. Good idea to microwave to comfortable temperature. All who have responded have been positive so feel more confident about giving it a try. Thanks again.
