A.A.A.D.D. KNOW THE SYMPTOMS!

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder.

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway,

I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,

I notice mail on the porch table that

I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,

put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,

and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills

back

on the table and take out the garbage first..

But then I think,

since I'm going to be near the mailbox

when I take out the garbage anyway,

I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my cheque book off the table,

and see that there is only one cheque left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study,

so I go inside the house to my desk where

I find the

can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks,

but first I need to push the Pepsi aside

so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Pepsi is getting warm,

and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi,

a vase of flowers on the counter

catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Pepsi on the counter and

discover my reading glasses that

I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk,

but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter,

fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.

Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,

I'll be looking for

the remote,

but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,

so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,

but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers,

but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,

get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to

remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:

the car isn't washed

the bills aren't paid

there is a warm can of

Pepsi sitting on the counter

the flowers don't have enough water,

there is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book,

I can't find the remote,

I can't find my glasses,

and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,

I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all damn day,

and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem,

and I'll try to get some help for it,

but first I'll check my e-mail....

Do me a favour.

Forward this message to everyone you know,

because I don't remember who the hell I've sent it

to.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

Same here. I lost my car once popped to our local close by shop before going home, and walked home with my shopping. It was not until the wife asked were the car was 2 hours later. I had panic and then remembered where I left it :)

that was so funny, and true! Trying to save ourselves effort and we end up no better off. And because things slip the mind so easily, we need to do something straight away, which leads to us forgetting our first mission! For me, being ancient, I tend to count things as jobs which once upon a time I would have done without thinking - Like making a cup of tea, for instance. Oh well, as long as we can laugh at ourselves we will survive! My poor hearing leads to some confusion at times.

It's not only the old. My first wife walked a mile and a half home from Tesco and then remembered she had left our new baby in his pram outside the store. (Remember the days when you could safely leave babies outside a shop?) The baby is now 48 and still tells everyone he was an abandoned child.

I never forgave mine for not getting me a johnny 7 gun at Xmas.

I don't think this is just an age thing :O I knew youngsters at work with it! And everything they did they created more work. I did learn to work productively there and was very aware of this syndrome. I made sure my work (admin) was dealt with without any distractions as far as possible and having a clean desk at the end of the day was great. As was being considered a good worker.

But I do admit this is what I am like when I am trying to clean and tidy my small flat! I try and sort my messy floor out but when I pick up a book I put it in the bookcase then realise I have to sort this out first etc. etc. It drives me mad :d xx

That was great Offcut! I think we all saw our selves in it. I do the same. I'm a big collector of magazines and books. Hate to get rid of any. I'll start to go through the books, then switch to the magazines. 2 hours later there I sit on the floor reading the magazines. Having thrown none away!

My husband comes home and I tell him how hard I worked. He says "It doesnt look

like you did anything , but make a mess"!

And hes right. A.A.A.D.D. it is!

That what really great! You should put that on the APS-site also. Please do! If you must not do anything else of course.

done

Very funny :) Doesn't apply to me as I'm extremely lazy and if I accomplish one task per day then I wouldn't dream of comtemplating a second one.

Omg, what a relief!!!! Thought I was the only one. Haha Really though, for the last couple of years I've, surprisingly noticed an urgency to read as much as I can, research a multitude of subjects, but especially our issues , fill in family genealogy, I just want to know everything!!!! I want to know how to grow veggies that arent from seeds that are GMO even though I don't have the air or the help necessary to accomplish it. I spend a lot of time researching all the toxic chemicals used to keep food "fresh" and when you check each one you find they are not only toxic but poison. Holy Cow, did I get off the subject???? Lol. Anyway my daughter and I had a good laugh when I shared it with her and being that she is almost 60 she can already relate to " a little" of it!! Well once again I've gone on a tangent, sorry. I'm afraid being alone so much has really made a monster out of me.

But you nailed it, Offcut!! We are in such a hurry to do all we can, we forget what we are doing while we are doing it!!! Haha

That is new room memory clearing a known medical fact. You need to go back to the room you thought of it to see it will come back?
