Panting!

I have IPF and am on oxygen 24/7, at rest this holds my sats around 93%. At rest on no oxygen they are 77-79%. If I really exert myself I can get very breathless and start panting, through my mouth as I find it almost impossible to breath in through my nose. Any tips on how to rectify this?

Hi

You need to pace your self, to keep controll of your breathing.

You can also use a breathing technique blow and go.

Stop to breath in. Exhale to go or perform any task.

Being breathless will not cause you any harm, if you are more breathless because of exertion, then mouth breath until you gain controll , two or three pants one nose.

Concentrate on breathing out, this will allow you to take in oxygen better as to slow your breathing down to your normal,

If you are on continuouse supply, you will still get sufficent oxygen with the occasional mouth breathing.

With a sudden shortness of breath and to avoid anxiety or panic attacks use any breathing technique that suits you.
