FVC% Predicted.

Think I might have asked this one before.

Should your FVC% Predicted be high or low.

In 2012 it was 114% (fev1% predicted 79%) now it's 127% (fev1% predicted 81%).

I was always under the impression your Lung Volume Figures were good if close to the 100 mark.

I tried the on line lung volume test but it said my FVC% should be lower than my FEV% ????????.

Sorry if I've asked this before.

I don't understand that either but I thought the important figure is your FEV1. If this is above 80% then you are not classed as having COPD. Do you know your FEV1? x

There are a lot of websites that provide an explanation of the results. This one is fairly straight forward and clear.

FEV1 - how much you blow out in 1 second

FVC - how much you blow out all together

So therefore FEV1 will be less than FVC in actual numbers (but not necessarily in %)

This is soooo confusing! My fev1 is 85 before inhaler and 91 after. My fvc is 109 and 111. How can I have copdwith these numbers? This Iis driving me crazy.

Did you ever get the answer to this? I have a similar pattern, in 1995 my FVC was 6L or 100%. In 2015 it went up to 6.35. The FEV1 rose as well by not by that much going from 4.6 to 4.8.

I have discussed this with docs and they maintain for this increase to be related to COPD the FEV1 would have declined.cant give me an answer for the increase in FVC other than not blowing out for long enough in the first test or diffrences in the spirometer.
