Thank you for all your replies regarding feeling low.

It seems I have clinical depression. Suggested I take a course of tablets, not sure which ones yet. This is a first for me. Anyone out there in a similar position? Thanks again for all your help.

Depression is a commonly recognised condition which frequently accompanies COPD sufferers. I've been on Fluoxetine (Prozac) for the best part of 15 years and it's been pretty successful with no detected side-effects. I did try to stop them for a while but an event triggered a negative set of feelings and I've been back on them ever since. It may take time to find the right one for you as we all react differently, but from my perspective I'd say there's nothing to lose, and lots of potential gain from using them under prescription. Others may hold different opinions.

Best of luck.

Hi Brooke12 Ive suffered most of my life with the same, gosh there are so many choices of medication out there it would be wrong to suggest as we are all so very different taking other medications etc etc so many variables what works for one doesnt for somebody else. What I can say is that they work , once your taking one that suits hopefully that will be the first you take they can take between 1-4 weeks before you start to notice any change so hang in there unless of course you suffer any nasty side effects, some side effects where off some stay and you live with those and some are just intolerable, your doc will be keeping a close eye on you so remember to say anything that disturbs you in any way.The ones i take give me a very dry mouth and i can be prone to putting on weight of which is common with mine, but they really keep me at ahappy level thats why I continue with them plus they help with sleep and the lowering of blood pressure so bonuses for me.As others have said its good to talk so hopefully you will be offered some therapy along side your medication believe it really does help.Goodluck and keep in touch and talk and share. :) Janexx

Good luck Brooke, hope you find the right one for you,let us know how you get on xxx

Try not too worry if your Dr gives you something to take the edge of feelings of anxiety that can only be a good thing, as you see many members need a little support from time to time and many of the brands have little and no side effects just follow your Dr and I hope you feel lifted. Sunshine and light also helps low moods, so just going for a walk on a bright day is good for your well being ..x

I was diagnosed with cpod and because my breathing was too laboured I was sent to a consultant who says I have depression with panic/anxiety. I have had a tough few years but didn't realise how much everything had effected me but it must have as I now after 2 weeks of being on antidepressants, I feel better in my self. I don't think we realise how much our mind controls our bodies and if you need tablets, take them. I have found I am able to rationalise my feelings and thoughts more clearly by taking the tablets. I am seeing the consultant in 2 weeks so he can assess how the tablets are working for my breathing but happily I will be able to tell him that I have seen a marked improvement. So my advise is don't suffer depression alone. There it's help do take it. Good luck.

I tried Prozac about 20 years ago, and my body hated them. Think I had an allergic reaction to them. Some people take really well to it, hence it being called the miracle pill back in it's day, but I can't.

I take Citalopram. I've been on it for 20 years without any side effects. I was on 60mg a day which back then was the max dose. Since then they have changed the guidelines on them and the max you can have is 40mg, which I am taking. I don't feel like a Zombie, however, since cutting the dose down, I feel a tad depressed. Might have to revisit the docs. If you miss a dose of the Citalopram, the side effects are almost immediate. Jumpy/edgy feeling. Not nice, so it reminds me not to miss a dose. Persevere!!

Don't be afraid to moan if the tablets aren't right for you. Go back to the docs and get another one. There are soooo many out there!!

Good luck though. xx
