is it normal to be struggling for breath for over an hour when havin attack b4 returns to normal how long a wait till it emergency

As suggested you need to speak with your doctor who can determine the cause ie asthma, allergy reaction etc. and the appropriate treatment. Don't delay its Friday.

you should not be struggling for breath for an hour phone doc or nhs 24 immediately
this has happened to me a few times when I'm out on the farm in cold & damp air & have forgotten to use Salamol (blue inhaler/reliever) .... it's really frightening.
Take a couple of puffs of Salamol (blue inhaler) & try putting a scarf or something over your face, then breath in through your nose & out through your mouth, using pursed lips (holding lips as though you were going to whistle).
Oh, & do get to see your GP asap ..... something could be brewing
