Wondering if you are talking about a clinic visit to test for sleep apnoea. Perhaps your brother could see his GP and ask him/her to explain.

He must insist on better support fro his GP or change the GP.

If he can't get breath and is coughing all the time then there's something wrong. If it's worse at night it might be asthma but he must have the proper lung function tests.

I was the same, I had "asthma" was coughing. Eventually, i got an infection which didn't clear away. so much so that the consultant sent me to the Brompton Hospital to be diagnosed. I had a "lovely time" there as the consultant there kept me for a few days for tests. I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. I didn't improve at the time, but it was managed more or less well!

What changed is that I go a nasty infection and stayed in hospital for three months. They detected pneumonia and Mycobacterium (TB). The consultant gave me an appropriate drug and I went to Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

do ask to be seen by a specialist consultant who can do tests, take XRays or a scan and analyse your sputum by a good microbiologist at the hospital. Take charge and say I want! rather than wait for the doctor for ever and see yourself deteriorate. If GP cannot do it, at least have yourself referred to a lung consultant and a pulmonary nurse team. They do a deeper kind of examination that the GP. Hope you get sorted out soon.

Hi Janebanks, I would ask for a second opinion definitely, and be referred to the Respiratory team at you Hospital. Tell your GP that you are not satisfied with his answer and you know something is wrong. After we know our own bodies and when they are not right. Cheers Cheryl
