Seeking support generally, but especially from anyone who might be in or near Berkshire and getting pulmonary rehabilitation soon.

Have many mental health issues, particularly agoraphobia (but if anyone wants the full details see my profile), and haven't been out since being forced to move last November. But because my breathing is getting worse I've asked my doctor for pulmonary rehabilitation. Just going out terrifies me, and doing anything in a group frightens me even more.

The British Lung Foundation website says these groups have a friendly and supportive atmosphere but I know my problems make me very different. Can anyone reassure me? Is there maybe someone going to the same classes?

Am very new to everything, sorry if I fill out stuff wrong...

A warm welcome, legion9. I do sympathise with your problems. It is true that pulmonary rehab., could be of assistance to you. I have

read your details and feel I am not qualified to help. I dont live in the Berkshire area, although I spent my childhood years in Earley, Nr. Reading.

If you click on the big red balloon above, you will get the number of the BLF nurse. I think Helen should be able to help you. Certainly, if you have problems going out, you will need someone with you.

I wish you al the best. Do let us know how you get on, legion9

Can you speak to your respiratory nurse? She may be able to arrange for someone to collect you from home or to befriend/support you in some way at the group. It is great that you are going and I am sure you will get a lot from it. Good luck. xx

Welcome to you legion. Not in the Berkshire area but understand your predicament in going out.

Annie and Toci had good suggestions and I would say follow everything up. I wonder also if there's a Mind group in your area and someone could come out and visit you at home? They might also be able to offer to go with you to Pulmonary Rehab.

Let us know how you get on, Lovelight x

Welcome to you - good advise above. Hope you get lots of support from this site. Sorry I am nowhere near you. Take good care and good luck TAD xx

A very warm welcome to you Legion the others have given good advice. I particularly liked the Toci's idea of contacting the pr nurse and asking for someone to collect you. Good luck

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Lived in Lower Earley for a time, it was nice and peaceful. In those days I could still walk to places. Being able to go on walks is something I miss, but not something I'd be comfortable doing in my present address. It's not so much a bad district, just far too many people. The leg pains stopped me walking long before my lungs had a chance to have their say.

How do I get a respiratory nurse? Because of problems with the consultant there's a lot of treatment I just didn't seem to be offered.

Went through a long period of denial myself. It's very hard to break free of it. I don't really know how many years ago I got my diagnosis, but it's taken until now for me to start accepting having a lung disease. Hope your partner gets over his soon.
