Is there anybody out there that doesn... - Lung Conditions C...
Is there anybody out there that doesn't mind saying if they live in Wolverhampton. It's just a thought, but maybe we could meet up for chat.
Sorry no I live in Kent. Do you have a Breathe Easy Group near you? I'm going this month for the first time. My copd nurse sent me a leaflet.
Shame. Thought ask around see if you can start one going.
I have thought about it. I am a voluntary worker and already involved with several other things. I was thinking that if there were others we could think about starting one up together.
Anyone around Royston, Herts?
Do you think we should start a campaign within this group to start new support groups up.
Hi, before this site was "improved" a couple of months ago you used to be able to see what area people lived in, but that's not possible now. A few people have asked about it, it's a shame as a of people can become isolated with lung disease, or with any disabling disease I expect. Sadie xx
Hi Sadie
Thanks for that. You're so right that people may be isolated. Also, even if people don't want to join a support group , it may be possible to meet up in the city now and again and enjoy a chat and a cup of coffee/tea. Now everything is governed by rules regarding peoples identities, that could be the reason why they no longer publish the areas we live.
Hi hope it's ok to join the chat here. Well here in my part of ayrshire is a breath easy group, always 1 time in a month, but its always early at 1pm, where I do still working. Its a shame that there no later at the time , I just found out about these group meeting and I have no days that I could take left. I have to take at last a half day because I would need an hour to drive. Would be a nice idea to meet some for a chat
It's a shame that we live opposite ends of the country, you up in Scotland and me in the Midlands. Maybe there is someone near you that is in the same situation as you, and would would like to meet up with you at a time to suit both of you.
hi mustcarryon, your suggestion is good but that's why BLF started breathe easy groups you can start one any where with their help.I am within your area i.e a short train journey away in the West midlands.I meet with a group for coffee once a week and find that is helpful better than once a month for a couple of hours. But many groups don't survive due to the cost of rooms if you are a larger group. Our local breathe easy group meet in the church in the town center, as does my coffee group.Maybe you could get a group going locally for coffee & chat, or maybe Age UK could advise on what's available locally for you, Good Luck
Hi Katieoxo60
Thanks for that. I'm pretty familiar with the ins and outs regarding venues within Wolves. I sit on 8 committees, and that is another reason why i need help from others in the area who would be interested. I'm just too busy to organise it on my own, even though I would have help from BLF I need people on hand.
Hi I tried to get a little group together where I live! As nearest BE group is miles away! I am lucky I have a friend with copd close by, but I agree with you, it would be nice to get together & have a natter! X
fully agree with this meeting suggestion. We all need friends. Mine are all over the country and I lost my best friend (my mum) 4 years ago so I haven't anyone to really talk to. My poor hubby struggles to and my grown up kids just think I should get on with my life. I would love to make coffee once a week to chat with people who are in the same boat as me or just to meet new friends who want to expand their circle. So if anyone is around my area which is Burton on trent/derby and surrounding, give me a shout.
Hi carolcolley.
Losing your mom is probably one of the worst things we can ever go through, it's something you never recover from. I understand where you are coming from, my husband , son and friends are all helpful and sympathetic when I am ill, however, as you say it would be good to have a chat and a cuppa with others in the same boat, like times when I've had a chest infection and i'm on the floor choking as i'm coughing, it's so scary. Good luck, I hope you get some replies.
Thanks for your reply. I have only just been diagnosed with COPD and the Doctors have been useless. They have made so many errors with organising test etc and it has all got me down.
I hope you find a friend who will be a comfort to you as I am sure you would be for them.
Hi carolcolley
I'm sorry you've had so much trouble getting the right diagnosis, nobody should be treated as you have, unfortunately it happens all to often these days. I do have support from my family and friends, my lovely husband spoils me rotten, he took me shopping today and bought me a pair of boots, and I don't even know how to switch the hoover on. It's just having a chat over a cuppa with someone who has the same problems may ease any fears we may have. I'm sure there are people out there, and we will meet up sooner than later. I need to put the feelers out.
