hi not sure if it can be taken with your other meds but worth asking your doctor about Omeprazole....i was the same felt like i was about to give birth....but this has made me feel so much better...the doc said it was my other meds causing the bloating and omeprazole worked wonders..good luck xx

I think it is compatible with the medication ... I tried it but couldn't bear the stinking eruptions it caused lol!! Maybe I should try again as I've ballooned 4 sizes.

I've recently been told I'm retaining CO2 and wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Feel like I go round in circles - as soon as one thing seems to get sorted, something else rears up ...

I gave up smoking and use e-cigs, which work for me. Checked them out thoroughly and they appear safe (whatever that means!)

Good luck ...

Jude

Hi Val, have you seen the doctor? It could be one of many things. Simple or not so simple.

I think it's important to seek medical help if this is unusual for you.

Personally, I know I swell ridiculously if I eat anything fungal ie mushrooms, grapes (from the white bloom on them), some cheese and many wines.

I also swell from eating protein & carbs together so have all my carbs at breakfast or snack times and never at my protein meals.

BlakeyC put up a link to a bloating article the other day you could scroll back to other similar questions or posts to find it? Take care, peeg

Hi Val, My husband doesn't suffer with the bloating but he uses Symbicort or the seretide 500. He does use Spiriva though. I would ask your doctor and perhaps ring the helpline - they may have heard or know of meds. that can cause these symptoms. I feel sorry for you though - it must be very uncomfortable. Hope you can find a solution. Take care, TAD xx

my stomach is also like that, agree you shuld get checked over but I was told its common and not to worry

One of the side effects of seretide is it can mess with your metabolism. I also have a large stomach which is solid and no amount of exercise or diet reduces it. My Dr is not unduly worried so I just put up with it.

Thanks to all. Only other symptoms are gaseous eruptions both ends. Bowels are fine. Very occasionally I get some acid reflux and indigestion that makes my teeth ache. Omeprazole eventually soothes. XXXX

Hi Val,

I had the same problem with Seretide 250 when I started with it, but I got told its a side affect.

I got easily rid of when I was walking around or have lie flat on the floor and move your knees to your body, reaped that a bit and you will get some relive, it worked for me, just take you time when you very out off breath.

I don't have this problem anymore because I am always walking around or go swimming twice a week, but always take my time. I hope it will help for you too. take care. :)

Hi Coccobo

Many thanks for your exercises and advice. You have crystallised my thoughts about my problem. I need to get off my bottom and go swimming etc, instead of hiding away grumpily at home.

Many thanks also for the Mail article, and the good wishes.

Now I've got the hang of the new Blog I think it is marvellous, as are all of you. XXXX

Hi Val, don't be grumpy,- smiling and having a laugh is much better. I know sometimes it is not easy to get your body moving to do something, special after I come from work...what gets harder and harder for me, because of my breathing for that I have a lot trouble with HR about my illness. But when I am home over weekend I have not so much problems and can do exercise at home and go at last twice a week swimming :) if you have any advise how I can stop smoking,- I will be gratefully :) ;) :) xxx

Dear Coccobo. Nothing like a trip to God's waiting room to scare you in to it. I stopped 'dead' ha ha! Cold turkey was hard but now I think the ones that target the nicotine addiction, tabs, gum etc would be the way to go. The hardest to kick are the 'habit' ones. With coffee after a meal was my toughest, but slowly the rewards come. A better sense of taste, no smelly clothes, less coughing and less chest infections and colds. Most of all you must decide that you deserve better. XXXX

Hello Coccobo, I would recommend a book called 'Easy Way to Stop Smoking' by Allen Carr (this is not Alan Carr the comedian!) At one time I couldn't even comprehend life without cigarettes, but after reading the book and attending an 'Easyway' weekend workshop I haven't smoked for over a year and a half. Good luck xxx

I started having the same problem when i started using spiriva its a steroid, seems the only thing to do is diet and exercise, like yeh in my condition. But talk to your gp it could be something else

Dear Aswad and Hannahmac,

Many thanks for your input. I have just tried my home made Easyjo Yoghurt and I now have a slight waist. I prefer a natural solution if poss, as I already have to take enough Meds. Thanks again.

I have had the same bloating problem for some time now

and have been on the ‘Easi-Yo’ daily for a couple of years.

I was beginning to wonder if it could be part of the problem.

It’s really strange, I can cook a stir-fry (hot & spicy) and the bulge

will subside, yet if I eat a little yoghurt and fruit it can starts again.

Think I will have to break down and see the Doc sometime !

I hope the Easi-Yo works for you !

Do you mean fresh fruit or tinned ? Are you making Low Fat Greek. ? X Val

dukes profile image
dukes in reply toValcopd

I use both fresh and tinned fruit, Val, and the sweetened fruit flavours (Love the Apricot)..

As for Greek, I prefer the standard full fat version which I normally have with honey and toasted split almonds.

I also use the Greek in Tandoori Chicken and when making Peshwari Naan breads ( I am not Asian, just love spicy foods). Being stuck inside a little flat for long periods I find food is the one thing that gives me something to look forward too; if only it didn't involve all of that washing up !

Hoping that you are feeling suitably deflated today,

Brian.

Spiriva isn't a steroid but Seretide contains corticosteroid.

Jude

in reply toqbjb

Hi qbjb I thought spiriva was a steroid and have not taken it, I'm on seretide 500 cos they say the corticosteroid helps airways open, have u taken spiriva looking for some advice please

qbjb in reply to

Hi Boo-Boo - it's the opposite!

When I first saw a consultant he prescribed Seretide 500 and my voice went all gravelly so I refused to use it. A nurse (who was giving me acupuncture nothing to do with my doctor) suggested Spiriva which I took until this month (for about 6 years) and found fine. I was also taking Serevent (no steroid content either!)

I had a bad patch recently and asked to go on Seretide again thinking I might tolerate it better but gave up again as it affected me the same way yet again - and I hate steroids!

Have just started Seebri instead of Spiriva which is a new product just to see if it is better or not ... don't know yet ...

Sorry this is such a long answer but hope it helps!

Jude

P.S. Seretide and Spiriva work in different ways.

Dear qbjb.

I had severe throat problems with Seretide 500 until I stopped inhaling it SLOWLY and gargled and spat twice after every dose. XX Val

qbjb profile image
qbjb in reply toValcopd

Dear Val

I gargled and spat honest but it didn't help and I now hate the stuff with a vengeance lol!! It's great if you can get on with it but not for me ... I gave it a couple of weeks and it then took over a week to get my voice back to normal.

I'm glad it works for you - I suspect the steroid content might lessen the number of exacerbations ... maybe?

Jude xx

in reply toqbjb

Dear Booboo. I have been on Spiriva for many years. Back then it was NEW, and used once a day it is a great non-steroid broncho dilator. If it has been prescribed you should give it a try, it may help. XX

in reply toValcopd

Thank you val I am going to try it cos I would prefer not to be on steroid till its necessary as i have seen negative side and don't want to be dependant on them xx my friend has moderate emphesema and is on spiriva so I thought it would be too strong xx thank u xx
