In work today I was asked to us isopropyl alcohol, I have copd and now can not breath or talk. Any one got advice plz?
HI, I've done a quick google and I don't wish to scare you but read a few different threads and apparently it can dangerous to inhale.
"Inhalation can cause a number of symptoms, including headaches, nausea, vomiting, irritation of the nose and mucous membranes, throat irritations, and even difficulty with breathing"
OK, you may not have been actually inhaling it from the bottle but if you have copd and were using it sounds a bit worrying, especially as you have symptoms. The BLF helpline will be closed now but I would suggest you call the NHS 111. Or, even better, get to your local A&E.
Please, please don't think I'm trying to worry you, just best to be safe rather than sorry.

Thanks Libby, yes I am going to get to the walk in centre or call for a nebuliser, my throat is really sore now and breathing not getting better. Thanks again.

take pen and pad with you to wright down what you have said here.
You could refuse to use it unless they provide you with complete H & S instruction and protective ie mask wear. One of the times H & S is useful

Thanks guys, just come back from the Drs, blood gasses ok chest ok but still very hoare, he thinks I may have a throat infection caused by breathing in the stuff but he isn't sure lol. Well it was fine before I used it so I am going with the stuff has done it.

Before any chemicals new or old are used in the workplace a full risk assessment must be undertaken ,followed by the appropriate training for all concerned ,and as a last resort PPE provided as the need identifies, any failures of the above can have very serious consequences for the employer and the employee.
