Moved here 7 months ago to be close to family from gorgeous Dorset....I have had 4 exacerbations and now feel as if a 5th is on its way. I am currently two weeks into my rehab course....is this not a great area for COPD???? Fed up with feeling grotty. Did call the Breatheasy lady but she was not well, and I have not heard back....

Possible bad move,,,lot less air pollution in dorset,, bummer,,,,
Sorry to hear you're having a rough old time of it - here, have a hug (((hug))) and a great big smile
Hi Moutik I would phone the BLF number again maybe today before weekend. The stress of moving perhaps hasn't helped as I find even small changes cause anxiety and result in exacerbations. Having a new gp and new neighbours will take time to sink in. I am in a seaside town but quite far from family so you have given yourself the advantage of being near them. Meantime concentrate on your meds and looking after yourself as best you can.Welcome to the forum and you will get good advice and support on here. Hope you feel better soon. xx
Well I wouldn't necessarily think you have moved to a worse area. We have never moved and my husband has times when he has a run of exacerbations and it seems never ending. BUT it does end eventually. Stress seems to play an important part of COPD - and the move itself and everything that goes with a move to a completely new area will be very stressful plus the fact you will have been doing more just with the moving.
Can understand why you are feeling grotty - if you can keep up with the Pulmonary Rehab - please do I am sure it will help you. If it is any help we live up North and my husband had a recent spate of infection after infection, the respiratory team told us that there was a spate of nasty infections that were taking time to clear up.
Perhaps you need a change of antibiotics? Could you ring the BLF helpline - they might be able to offer you some advise. Hope you feel much better soon. TAD xx
I don't think the area is to blame there are beautiful parts of Staffordshire and these days the air is not that much different wherever you live maybe if you moved from country to town, coast to inland you might notice a difference but maybe you are out of sorts because of the move.
I moved to be closer to my family too not realising what I was leaving behind and because of the tension and stress I was low and picked up all sorts and because I retired at the same time more time to worry about myself
Maybe you need to speak to your Doctor about reviewing your meds as well

I live in semi rural South Staffordshire and the air is lovely. You don't say where you are but Stoke on Trent with all the traffic pollution, might be different. It depends really and it might well be other reasons.

Thank you all.....poss the move, or maybe me trying to get a reason to go back!!! I am totally into the rehab and would not dream of not completing.....I think from experience of the last lot I did, the problems are finding somewhere to continue exercising with others.....I am lazy basically and need the discipline of a class each week. Would much prefer to be with other similar to me....did look at Breatheasy and it does seem some people have classes....ongoing.
In scotland most local council run gyms run classes that are light enough for unfit people,,also you can get gp refferal to a gym,
Aaah, thanks for that. But when I got here I did ask for referral when I was checked by pulmonary nurse at GP practice and she said they did not do it....but shall push when I get towards the end of my rehab
Check with your BLF regional office about your local Brearhe Easy group.Details on BLF website

We moved from Staffordshire/Derbyshire borders to the Somerset/Dorset border due to the extremely bad air pollution, in fact the local Council carried out a survey and it showed that the air quality where we lived was very bad. Since being down here (2 years now) hubby's breathing has improved slightly, still has exacerbations but has had no hospital admissions for his breathing. There is a local Breathe Easy group in Coalville (or at least there used to be). Good luck
Could it be something in the house you now live in that triggers it, does it feel better when you are out of the house? We moved and I was really bad only to discover black mould hiding under the kitchen floor. Felt much better once that cleared.
Aaaah....maybe, will have a look and a chat with husband....
