Asthma post covid

I’ve had covid unfortunately twice in the last 4 months, the first time really affected my asthma for 8 weeks, A short while later I then got covid unfortunately again but with minimal symptoms, 2 weeks later I’m getting problems again. I get sudden onset breathlessness with palpitations and feel faint / fatigued. Just comes on randomly. Improves after about 30 minutes with inhalers/rest. I am usually pretty fit… I’m just really frustrated since this is affecting my work.

I was just wondering if anyone with asthma had had similar symptoms post covid, and how long it took to get better? Thanks so much

Hi sorry to hear your unwell again. I've only had covid once have severe asthma it has really effected me still off work week 6, couple of a and e trips, 3 lots antibiotics steroids. I have found the pulpurations get shorter every. Can you get some blood tests from gp consultant, have you had xray . Think you can get referred to long covid clinic not sure how many weeks I'm going to ask gp this week.

That's unlucky to get Covid twice so close together. I had covid and it made my asthma flare, chest infection etc. I also had palpitations. All I can say is that they did clear up eventually! 3 months and I saw considerable improvement in fatigue and palpitations. I'm now 7 months post covid and despite the occasional headache things are much better. All I can suggest is to take your time. Getting over covid is no easy thing and just when you think you're recovering symptoms can flare again. Needless to say if symptoms are really concerning you then do get checked out with your GP.

Hi while shielding as a nurse due to severe allergic asthma. I worked in test & trace. We recommend that you didn’t test again from original pcr positive test result for 90 days as you may still have the virus (inactive) in your body. Therefore if you were one of my patients I would say long covid or since you have a background history of asthma is destabilised due to covid. Either way due I would see GP or call 111.

Thanks, I actually work in a hospital and we are advised to test from 2 weeks after an episode of covid due to risk of reinfection. We test twice a week with lateral flow tests routinely, and every day if any close covid contacts/symptomatic. I was negative after two weeks of the first infection so I know I had a reinfection. I’m already under a respiratory consultant, however I have no idea why I suddenly have spontaneous episodes of breathlessness and palpitations… I could just blame covid I guess. The first time took 8 weeks to resolve so I guess I’ll give it another 8 weeks from the second infection… Fingers crossed

I developed asthma following a very bad 'chest infection' two years ago which I suspect was Covid since the symptoms were identical (but much worse) to the Covid I got in March this year. And the March Covid made my asthma flare up badly too.
