Can someone describe asthma in terms
Of breathing do you struggle to breathe in or out or is it both? I’ve been for a run today and I feel out of breath again very easily? I came home done my peak flow and it’s 800. I haven’t taken any asthma meds since last august..
Personally it feels as if getting air in is the problem, but I know the difficulty breathing out means you can’t breathe in! When I’m relatively well, I’ve noticed I can breathe in for several seconds longer than I can breathe out 🤷♀️Your peak flow is almost off the scale though. I think you should put the meter away and forget about asthma until it really bothers you. Life’s too short to be worrying like this
Hi thanks for the reply. I find it hard to put the meter away due to myself feeling like I can’t breathe it’s defo been troubling me since January especially when I exercise im a football fanatic and it stops me from fully giving my best performance.
Why did you stop your asthma meds? Was it on doctor's advice? It might be worth a quick phone call to check your symptoms with them.
My asthma gets triggered by exercise, and I feel like I am breathing through a thick layer of cloth. It affects both breathing in and out, although it's worse breathing in.
It sounds like you would benefit from having a chat with one of the Asthma UK nurses followed up with an appointment with your GP or GP asthma nurse. Having stopped your asthma meds it's important to discuss your experience and expectations so that they can share their clinical knowledge and advise you about your asthma and how to best manage things going forward. There are options in addition to meds, such as seeing a respiratory physiotherapist, but only your doctor or asthma nurse can determine if that's a suitable option for you.
Who told you to stop the asthma medication? GP, Nurse, Respiratory team? It's really important not to stop asthma medication unless you have been told to e.g. I am under the Severe Asthma Clinic and they tell me what to take and what to stop. Speak to your GP if you are breathless regardless of your peak flow they will have your medical history as to why you needed medication last year.
