Polite request and forum rules reminder

Hi guys

I’m going to post this now as I know it’s the weekend so AUK may not be about.

Please can we be considerate of the poster when replying to a thread. If it’s not relevant or not helpful please think twice and DONT reply.

We are here for advice and support. If you want to rant feel free but do it on your own post don’t hijack someone else’s.

What you may forget is that every reply you post on a feed (even if to another users message) gets pinged to the original poster, and they may not want 20+ notifications about something irrelevant and unhelpful for them.

Equally if the original poster (or others) suggest you stop, or restart on your own post, please be respectful and listen to them.

This is a community, not a free for all. Debate in your own spaces, not others (esp as I said if they request you don’t). From our community guidelines; “please post what you feel to be useful, accurate and constructive information or questions related to Asthma… Our community is a harmonious and respectful place”

And for some of our rules of engagement;

“ •Keep your messages civil, tasteful and relevant, avoid political posts

•Maintain respect for other people

Post your message under the relevant thread

Be sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of others - something that you may consider acceptable may be offensive to others ”

Many thanks guys and hopefully our new users and people thinking of posting for the first time will continue to post and interact with the forum.

Hi Foxy!

There can occasionally be some very heated debates on the forum and if everyone is happy with that it’s fine. However I was just trying to remind people that if the original poster of something has requested a debate is stopped and relocated, the polite thing is to do so!

With this being an anonymous Internet forum it can be easy to forget that people may not want to be part of the exchange but get constant notifications about it, if that happens on their post.

So long as what’s commented is helpful and relevant to the users original post then everything is good 😊

We all accept the community rules when we log on, but it is easy to forget them in the heat of an argument, so after an ‘irrelevant for original poster’ discussion last night I thought I’d provide a friendly reminder for the old timers and some reassurance for any newbies who may now be worried about posting if they read what was going on.

Hope that explains things a little
