Allergies and Asthma

Hi there,

This is my first post but just wanted to check to see if anyone has had problems with their asthma and allergies? My asthma was being relatively okay but the past week I feel like I’m breathing heavier and my chest is a little heavy, I’m more breathless and feel like my heart is going quite fast too. I do usually get hay fever quite bad but because I wasn’t really getting physical symptoms of my hayfever I wasn’t taking antihistamines for it. But I definitely feel like relatively mucus built in like my throat/chest. I’m not coughing just the symptoms I mentioned, I have taken an antihistamine but it’s been going on for just under a week so I will see if maybe I need a stronger inhaler to calm it a bit but just wanted to know if anyone has similar problems?

Thanks,

Chloe.

Hi and welcome.. I've been suffering with my asthma and hayfever for over a week too. More so since the hot weather and the pollen has been very high. I've doubled up on antihistamines and inhalers which I'm allowed to do so I'd check if you able to too. I have asthma nurse calling me on Thursday.Worth you making an appointment too to see if you need stronger inhaler.

Hope you find relief soon hopefully when weather cools down abit.

Antihistamines can take a couple of weeks to be working consistently. They do work quicker than that but for ongoing relief for something like pollen they need to be taken more consistently. About a week ago the grass pollen rocketed suddenly so it's possibly that. I would keep going with the antihamines. By all means speak to your GP but the root cause/trigger needs dealing with and also a stronger inhaler could take 8 weeks to kick in. Other things like steroid nasal sprays (available from pharmacy) should help too

Hi ChloeI have the same problem with pollen and asthma, it's worth checking the pollen count regularly, I use this as very detailed worcester.ac.uk/about/acade... as the grass pollen is very high at the moment but weed and fungal spores can also affect asthma too. I'd speak to your doctor as you probably need to increase your inhaler but don't just put up with feeling worse as it needs tackling early. I tend to stay indoors more in this weather especially in the afternoons/evenings when the pollen can be worse.
