I have had a very similar situation.

As the epademic began I was told to stay at home. I had a cough which had been ongoing since November. Apparently asthma related.

This was my third bout of asthama. The second was last winter ... The first was several years ago!

I am a key worker working in the hospital and also work for a care home working for people with Dementia.

Like you there is no way for me to practice social distancing in my role.

Then the guidelines were a bit of a blur and my doctor was prepared to sign me off sick

Although trying to communicate this across parties was very difficult with the care home due to the different jargon they use.

I had to find another doctor who was willing to literally spell it out... No face to face contact!

Like you I am in vulnerable group and have asthma ... Although not on steroids, so not shielding.

But still high risk....

I am a little surprised that asthma uk and British Lung foundation have not spoken up on behalf of asthmatics, after all coronovirus attacks the lungs and ours are already not 100%. I work in a school of 1100 students and 75 staff, we have no official start date yet. There is some government guidance for schools regarding very vulnerable and vulnerable staff and my school released me a couple of days before they closed back in March. I had 5 weeks off school sick from 9th January with lower respiratory infection - three weeks on steroids and two courses of antibiotics.
