There was something on the tv yesterday. They have produced a couple of vaccines here in the UK that are just starting animal trials. If they work it will still take until next year until they are available to the general public because of safety trials.
To answer your question, if I were offered right now I really don’t know! At the moment there is only one case in my region and they were able to trace how that person got it, so I don’t feel in immense danger. I might bite the bullet if the reassurances were strong enough.
But do you agree that even though we don't fully understand it we are doing the best we can to fight it.
Yes definitely. At first I wasn’t sure. As an x teacher I was all in favour of school closures. I well remember Norovirus. It spread through the school faster than an outbreak of nits😁 My GP once described children as little germ buckets! (And he is right.) But, on the tv yesterday they explained that it needed to spread through so that the community would develop immunity to it. If that does not happen we will be constantly in danger from it. Scary though.
I’m expecting more announcements/ restrictions next week. I think, here in the UK, they are telling us what they might have to do to let us get used to the idea before they announce it.
Once Cheltenham is over, and this weeks footie there might be enough spread of the disease to start trying to illuminate it.
We are 4 weeks behind Italy. I certainly hope we do not reach the amount of deaths that they have had. We too have a big elderly population. I know the line is, that the people who died all had pre-existing conditions, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have gone on batting until they gently passed away in their sleep. In their own time. So sad.
Any vaccine made available in UK or USA will have to meet strict requirements involving full and exhaustive trials. That's why it takes so long. Cutting short these processes is not without risk. Note that the article states that shortcuts are allowed under Chinese law so their vaccine won't be available here without fully passing strict and full trials.
Usually human trials of vaccines use volunteers who don't have underlying health conditions.
Once a fully qualified vaccine is available I will definitely have it.
