Dehumidifiers

I think my asthma is being triggered by damp condensation inside my home in particular. I have been looking at dehumidifiers reviews but it's a bit of a minefield. Any recommedations please would be welcome. Many thanks. Liz

I just looked at my dehumidifier but can't see a name on it 🤔 I'll find the user guide tomorrow, that will have the name and model on it. I think having a dehumidifier has improved things a lot, not just getting rid of some humidity but also reducing the mildew. It was horribly damp indoors before. This dehumidifier is fairly small and doesn't use a huge amount of electricity.

I'd be very interested to find out recommendations too as I have been looking at air purifiers/dehumidifiers to see if it will improve things.

Hi. I have a very good dehumidifier, it's small, white, and is efficient. It's amazing how much water it collects. The brand is Hysure, bought via Amazon for about £30 . Can thoroughly recommend.

I saw a TV ad for a small Kärcher, I think a small vacuum for window condensation.

I'm allergic to mould spores as are many asthmatics so essential for me to have a 'dry' home. Good luck. P

My front windows are north facing, single glazed so get a lot of condensation. Every day I go round with a towel to wipe off the wet. It helps.

I meant to mention that the reservoir on my dehumidifier contains about a litre. Once I went away for a week forgetting I'd left it on so it overflowed. Came home to sopping carpet 🙄

Oh dear. We have old windows that are not double glazed. Looking to get diy secondary glazing now. Have used the cling film system in the past but not ideal. Have seen something on the website of The Plastic People that might do the job 👍🤞

I'll look up the plastic people as I can't do double glazing at the front in a conservation area. 😩

Yes we are not conservation but have lovely old wooden original windows with thin panes. Have search high and low for inexpensive solutions. L

We have Ebac dehumidifiers and Air Free purifiers. Both seem to work very well. We do use the Karcher too and that also works well.

I hope this isn’t too late being a week after your original post. I can’t give you a specific brand but here are some things to watch out for:

- Some dehumidifiers are noisy. Bear that in mind if you want to have one in your bedroom. Some are quiet but make a noise when switching on and off.

- Emptying them can become a big hassle, so make sure it has a decent capacity water container.

- It must be able to switch itself off and on based on conditions, or you will end up dehumidifying England (and paying for it).
