Currently in hospital (3rd admission since March - canβt wait til I can start Ben!ππ ). Waiting for my evening neb and do my PF check
350 (55%) twice, but 3rd attempt I started to yawn (though letβs use this anyway) and did the PF on the βoutβ yawn... 400 (63%)! Did another normal and got 350 again.
I then entertained myself as I had a yawning fit... every yawn PF 400, every βnormalβ 350 (small things I know ππ)
So the question is has anyone else had this phenomenon happen? If yes how much did you improve? If no, would you be willing to try it out ππ?

I did it and got a much higher result when I managed to coordinate the out-yawn into the tube (is that a word?)
While most poor PF technique issues seem to focus on falsely low results, I did have a consultant tell me the way I was doing it would get a falsely high reading - he said 'I'm not interested in what your trachea can do'. At the time I was getting a ridiculously high best due to this - I still have a pretty high best well above predicted but lower than the 'tracheal' one and confident this is real (former wind player) - plus only get it with a little help from my friend salbutamol, on a good day with a following wind and no yawning
I wonder if the exhalation from a yawn has a similar effect, as I know coughing into it also messes things up.
Yeah that was my thought too! I can actually feel trachea opening more when I yawn and the air was very fast past that point... I also got told off for doing PF post cough in clinic once for this very reason π π
