Hi Amy,

Welcome to the forum. Please fire any questions you have about your asthma, I'm sure people in the community will relate to them. In the meantime, here's a video from Debbie one of the Asthma UK nurses on what to expect after getting a diagnosis of asthma, and how to look after yourself and get further support.

Hope it helps,

Hi Amy,

I was diagnosed with late on-set asthma 6 months ago at the age of 42 and for a while struggled to understand my condition and get to the bottom of my triggers etc. I am still, through a process of elimination, figuring out what is good and what is not, but I feel more confident in knowing my asthma now....it's especially difficult when you had no prior conditions at all, where you took a lot for granted in the past....for me it seems that going gluten free (not always free, but keep it low, so no normal bread/pasta) has helped enormously....something I never thought would be the case as I was diagnosed through a chest infection and was a vaper back them...

My advice would be to get the medication and dosage of it sorted until you comfortable with your condition, and use this site and your asthma nurse as much as you need to get a better understanding of what your do's and don'ts are and what you can expect.

It might seem a bit daunting at first, I know it came as a shock for me at 42yrs, but knowledge is power :)

Cheers,

Kaivalagi (Mark)
