I have a generalised anxiety disorder as well as asthma and for me at least the tight feeling that comes with an asthma flare up feels different to the one that appears with anxiety . For instance the asthma one for me at least, is lower down in my lungs whereas as anxiety is higher up in my chest and makes my throat feel odd at the same time.

So yeah I have heard lots of forms of anxiety can cause the feeling of tight chest. It's sometimes hard to tell unless you know what you are looking for. x

Hi Shannon I also suffer with anxiety especially since coming out of hospital it's a different chest pain to asthma like Emilyeagleowl said the anxiety chest pain is higher up in the chest x

Anxiety can make Asthma worse, but Anxiety is not the reason for the preexisting Asthma condition.

This is a very annoying thing about asthma. Trying to work out the difference between the asthma and anxiety. I once had an asthma attack and panic attack rolled into one. Of course most people will be anxious when having an asthma attack as it is so scary but I have found it really difficult to get over the anxiety since having my attack. I have just been referred to a respiratory nurse for breathing technique. Have only had one appointment so far but it is really good. Maybe see if you can get referred to see one, it could make a difference to you.

Yeah I completely feel you there. The paramedic said theres a lot of anxiety mixed in with the wheezing it could be due to anxiety. No I wasn't feeling anxious until I couldn't breathe, the anxiety didn't trigger it. Not this time.
