Hi all, not sure what to do. I have an immune deficiency that is being investigated by an immune clinic. When I got home from my 4th admission in 7 months there was a letter that said they had postponed my next appointment by 3 months.
That would mean a 7 month gap between appointments! Given that most of my asthma is caused by a specific set of bugs, I am really worried that any further delay would result in more relapses and admissions when I am potentially so close to the issue being resolved.
I don't know what to do? I have called the clinic and explained the situation but I have not had a reply yet.
Should I complain? I was going to talk to my asthma nurse at the difficult asthma clinic as my consultant from there referred me in the first place.
I just want this to end now as it's having such an impact on my life.
I would ring the hospital switchboard and ask to be put through to the immune consultant's secretary. They're usually quite good at checking with the consultant and moving things around if necessary. Alternatively, you could ask your asthma consultant or your GP to write, asking them to bring the appointment forward, although this would probably take more time.
I'm really sorry to hear that you're having such a rough time, I know how frustrating things not being sorted out as soon as possible can be. I hope this helps and that your appointment can be moved.
Thanks Salamander,
Did just that. Got a reply saying they didn't think it would be a good idea to delay me as I am likely to be admitted again.
Thankfully, they have re-instated my appointment!
I do feel guilty about delaying someone else, although I hope they did a bit of triage on my case.
