My asthma has deteriorated this year, and looking for some alternative treatments have discovered Powerbreathe. Before i spend any money on this, just wondering if anyone has experience of it and was this positive. Many thanks

POWERBREATHE
i have one, but had it before I had asthma. personally i don't bother with it, and you will find exercise more effective, even if it's just walking. Swimming, cycling other great exercise for asthmatics.
Because of my lifelong asthma troubles I intensively trained with Powerbreathe last year.
I did a stint of about 5 minutes daily with a suction head of 100 cms. of water monitored with a pvc tube (dia. 3 mm) .
It was a decidedly double edged weapon and got my breathing really mixed up, because I lost the natural feeling for natural suction on inhaling so that my lung function declined and my asthma was worse as a result.
My experiment was on the basis that asthma is often due to mouth breathing, i.e. lack of suction effect during an inhale. Then logically breathing through a resistance (Powerbreathe) might retrain the breathing system and remedy diaphragm remodelling as the known organic basis of asthma.
After months of bad breathing the asthma completely disappeared. It seems clear if Powerbreathe can make asthma worse, then can also improve it by retraining the respiratory system.
Just for the sake of the record, in Internet forums I also wrote that my asthma was cured by training to achieve a lower abdomen expansion in circumference of 7 ½ cms.
Maybe some medically qualified person could offer training with Powerbreathe on the above lines avoiding the pitfalls. Cheers, Richard Friedel
