Kn1ghtleigh are you aware that if you have a lot of drugs you can cut your costs through purchasing a pre payment certificate.
seen as theres alot of threads on prescriptions lately I thought I'd bump this thread. So BUMP!
Tks xxx
i'm done as well
Me too. signed it last week, even though they probably wont take any notice.... Lets all move to Wales where everyone gets FREE prescriptions, why should workers in England and Scotland subsidise those in under the Welsh health authorities.
We're not; the NHS Wales is separately financed from the NHS in England and Scotland.
an alternative view
Um, what's wrong with paying a modest amount towards the cost of our drugs? I pay less than £100 p.a. for an annual prepayment certificate which covers the cost of all my drugs. As I take around 12 regularly, excluding flare-ups, this is an absolute bargain. And considering the (probably) hundreds of thousands of pounds of first-class treatment I have received free from the NHS, I for one do not begrudge it
Also, given the number of drugs which are dispensed but not taken by patients, at vast wasted cost to the NHS, surely totally free prescriptions will only lead to more waste?
I realise there is a glaring anomaly in that some chronic conditions DO qualify for free prescriptions, but my view is that this is wrong and that everyone (excluding, of course, children, the elderly and those on benefits) should pay something towards the cost of their drugs. The NHS does not have infinite resources and if you need more than 14 drugs per year then the prepayment certificate is excellent value for money
Polly - yay!
Someone who agrees with me on the ""all free or all pay"" approach to prescription charges!
