I've been reading posts on here for quite a while but have only just signed up. I've found alot of the posts on here quite helpful and its good to know that i'm not the only one who isn't 'normal' when it comes to asthma symptoms.
I would like to get to know people who are in the same situation as me as it seems you all support each other through good and bad.
Hi,My name is Angela and I have just started to look on this site - it was recommended to me by an Asthma nurse. I recently had a severe asthma attack and spent a few days in hospital and a further week at home resting before I go back to work.
I have had asthma for years but this last attack was probably my worst to date - it came on very suddenly or so I thought at the time as it was brought on by a cold and developing into a chest infection overnight . After speaking to the experts there were signs that my asthma was bad but I failed to recognise these at the time. I was really annoyed with myself that I did not do anything about these signs and as a result I ended up in hospital but I have learnt from this and I will do my best to prevent this happening again. The asthma nurse said there will be times when I will end up in hospital but there is a lot that can be done by myself to minimize the attack being so severe.
I do try and live a healthy lifestyle - I go to the gym and use the cardiovascular machines and I also go swimming once a week - I try to eat healthily - I will just have to shape up with other important factors like using my peak flow meter every day morning and evening and I keep a diary. I was very slack with using my preventative inhaler but all that will change now.
How do you live with your Asthma - does it prevent you doing things you really want to do?
Hi gloves,
Welcome to the boards. I'm a newbie too. Much friendly support on these pages.
