Manuka honey

My asthma has been particularly bad this week with a constant ""tickly"" cough. Someone at work suggested taking Manuka Honey 15+. Has anyone ever tried this. I will try anything to get back to feeling normal.

I was told to get local honey as it made with pollen from the local area making it more effective. Also a lot cheaper,Manuka honey is about £15 a jar.

hi

thought of that too - but when i asked a few people in health food shops (at the time i was on a course of preds) and mentioned that im on preds and would it further increase my blood sugar they instantly said dont have it all for the next few weeks.

I also asked recently if a diabetic could have it and they instantly said no and if i wanted it for antioxidant reason to eat better foods. Diabetes is in the genes for me unfortunatly and i dont want to have something to prevent my frequent infections which would end up adding to something far worse later in life.

Manuka honey is claimed to be anti-inflammatory.

If your asthma is inflammation, and there are many who believe that asthma, IBS, Coeliacs and hayfever are the result of an inflammed system partly as the result of diet, then remove what is causing the inflammation from your diet.

Wheat/Gluten is a huge inflammatory - bread is not something that our bodies can cope with at all well and nowadays most foods contain wheat/gluten - they even stick it in many types of frozen chip for example.

Coeliac's know not to eat wheat because wheat/gluten inflames their stomach/gut/bowels and leads to really bad symptoms. It is now believed that wheat/gluten manifests itself in inflammation in different ways in different people... so for some it is Coeliacs, others it is IBS, others it is hayfever or asthma... or a mix of them all.

We only began eating wheat/gluten about 12,000 years ago so, in the millions of years we have existed, wheat is brand new still to our bodies.

So, why not try giving up ALL wheat/gluten for 60 days, add in some anti-inflammatory Vitamin D3 and some Omega-3 fish oils and see how you get on.

The Manuka is not going to have much of a chance, I am trying to say, if you keep eating one of the most well-known inflammatories in the Human Body - wheat/gluten!

having said that...

I did buy a active 30+ manuka honey shower gel/wash from Dr Organics for my ezcema/psoriasis which seems to work wonders for all my skin problems!

I have been using manuka honey fur years and it works magic for me. As soon as I feel a sore throat coming on I take it and it goes.I don't remember the last time I got a cold or flu.
