hi my 2 year old son is the same. and we have been told by the hospital that he will always show an allergy to dogs. he has had the test and it did come back positive i would suggest she ask for allergy testing. we were told if he going to anywhere with dogs to give him antihistimine 1/2 hr b4. hope this helps.x

Hi when i go near dogs i get ichy nose, mouth, ears, watery eyes and very wheezy. If i have had antihistamine before it reduces the reaction but i still get it a little so i would advice limiting the amount of time around dogs. People who are allergic to dogs are sometimes also allergic to horses so please watch out for this. As it can affect the asthma for days afterwards. Or certainly does with me!

Hi, my sister and I grew up with a dog, but for many years since leaving home my sister has led a pretty much animal free lifestyle, where I on the other hand, I can't leave the things alone. I own a dog and in the main I don't suffer too many problems with my own dog. But dear ole sis who has infrequent contact with my dog suffers with breathlessness and itchy skin when she does touch any dog. I suspect this is down to her infrequent contact. Probably over time like I have done she would overcome these difficulties but unless your daughter is keen to have more contact with animals I wouldn't suggest her going out and touching every dog and cat going to desensitize herself. In part because it would be nuts to do anything so silly when the consequences could be rather unpleasant and possibly dangerous to her well being. Whilst I do cope with my own dog, after many years of coping with all types of animal hair I am now starting to experience some difficulties with a friend's dog who I have known and cared for 8 years. After 16 years of keeping rats with no problems became allergic, so the answer to your question, everyone is different and no one can say how your daughter is going to react in the future, but it is always wise to err on the side of caution.
