What is a peak flow reading?

Do you have to have a more severe form of asthma to need this?

Mine asthma fortunately seems to be quite mild compared to most of the folk on this forum. I feel a bit of a fraud on here.

No need to feel a fraud - I don't have asthma at all, and I moderate here!

A peak flow is the measure of the amount of air you can expel from your lungs in one minute. A peak flow that varies a lot over the course of the day is indicative of a lack of asthma control, and getting you to keep a peak flow diary is a good way for your GP/asthma nurse to see how controlled your asthma is on your current medication.

If you're not struggling at the moment, then there's probably no need to worry about it.

Thanks Steve and for answering so promptly.

Don't feel a fraud, Granny Mo! This board is for everyone, regardless of severity of asthma. No matter what your level of symptoms or medication, asthma can be difficult to deal with - so everyone is welcome to ask anything at all.

Sorry you feel that way Grannymo but dont feel like a fraud like cathbear and peaksteve said this forum is for people who have asthma and carers mums and dads of children with asthma anyone really I think this forum does have a lot of people with brittle asthma but there is also lots of people who dont have asthma on here so again please dont feel like a fraud and just carry on enjoying what AUK has to offer and make new friends Ive made friends with alot of people who I know I will keep in touch with for the rest of my life so take care hun HTH xxxxx

GrannyMo, don't worry, there are lots on here with very bad asthma, and then there are those like you who are one of the lucky ones. My asthma is classed as 'moderately persitent' but is currently managed well. Stick around, no matter what your asthma is like, you can always learn something from these forums.
